I definitely walked away from it (or the recording of it i listened to) with the feeling that Philip has been given his due for his contribution to Irish culture. The breadth of material performed, the influences acknowledge, and the tributes given showed this. Philip, I hope it made you proud. It made me feel proud just by the vague association of being a fan!

Best wishes to you again, hope you're enjoying the end of summer as best as you are able.

Didn't hear that, but I think she is a crap singer anyway.

I'm no fan of hers either, but I was there and I saw her looking really embarrassed when she forgot the words. OK she made a mistake, everybody does, anyone who has ever performed on a stage has screwed up at some point. The big thing is she was there to support Philip and that she carried on and even encouraged the audience to help her out.

And although she royally fucked up "Under Clery's Clock", to be fair I thought her version of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was superb.

Having only listened to the recording once it certainly sounds like it was an awesome night and a fitting tribute to a great man. Hs there been any talk of an official CD/DVD release does anybody know?

I suppose she does deserve that. But I liked her voice. I can see why Philip chose her to sing Under Clery's Clock.

I thought it was an interesting group of diverse styles, and did not dislike any of the acts. So it was a surprise to me when one of them experienced the heckling from some in the crowd. I know Dublin is a rough audience, but -- come on, he was there at Philip's invitation. the act was for Philip, not the audience.

Terry you are so right, Jake and I were discussing last night. I was actually shocked and saddened that the audience heckled that person. He had given his time to be there. The person in question wasn't really to my liking. Heckling is fine at an ordinary gig or a theatre show at the Royal Court, Liverpool but not at something organised to honour a man with terminal cancer.

I can't bring myself to watch an of the videos yet although I have looked at the photos from the night. In time I will watch them. I think I speak for many when I say that I'm finding it very hard to come to terms with all of this.

It was indeed a shame that Mary Coughlan botched Clery's Clock, as I've always loved her voice, but not so much her music so it was a lost opportunity. But these things do happen, and she sure sounded sorry on the radio (laughter a common stress reaction). I agree that her take on "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was superb.

I'd never heard Camille O'Sullivan before, but thought both Lorelei and Ships were highlights of the night and made me an instant fan.

Still, though, The Radiators stole the show.

I read the postings on this forum regularly but ive never responded before. I was at the Testimonial and it was an evening I will never forget for too many reasons to mention. I feel that Philip must have been very touched by the love that evening. It was genuine and heart felt. I discovered songs I knew nothing about and heard artists I was unfamiliar with all united together for the love and appreciation of Philip and his great work. I hope that it is clear to you Philip that you are much loved and always will be.

Dear Mary made the unwise calculation that Radiators fans would burst into song on the chorus and rescue her from not so much a tricky lyric as a fiendish vocal key change. Again and again I was reminded on Saturday of how complicated I had allowed my writing to become. I do not apologize - these harmonic sequences are mother's milk to me and it never really occurred to me how alien they might be to some other rockers. Which is why I was especially gratified to hear Paul Brady's brilliant Oscar Brown Jnr take on "Suddenly" from my Jack Rooney musical and Johnny Duhan's imperfect but great take on the Radiators "The Dark At The Top Of The Stairs".

Paddy MacAloone, beware.

It was a pleasure to be there Philip. With full awareness that I sound like an Abba song, I would still like to say 'Thank you for the music'.

As I said to someone recently, you are a fine songwriter, a finer man and a true hero of mine.

Peace & love,

Actually, that one was very much another highlight for me.

"Limited time" has now expired. The Testimonial can no longer be downloaded from Medusa. It may be available on RTÉ's site for several more weeks, and it may be illicitly available in the ether. Either way it is no longer available here.

Philip, Aidan Gillen mentioned a project that he was working on with you and others at the beginning of his Baltimore story that we did not hear him finish. Can you talk about it? Sorry if it's mentioned elsewhere, I missed it if it is.

Fun trivia - by deconstructing the Embed link over there you can come up with:

So ... still downloadable. Just not from Medusa
