Not sure where Phil is with the recurring ilness but it would be magic if he were up to joining christy on stage for faithful departed. Either way nice of christy to do something like this for a friend.

I interviewed Christy for my school magazine during the first flush of Planxty's success and followed up with the promotion of the show at the school, at which my band, Aisling, also supported. Christy and I have seemed destined to cross paths regularly since then, in that weird and wonderful way lives have of intertwining.

I doubt that's an option and at the moment I'm not even sure I can be present, but Christy's massive heart and generosity will more than fill that room without my help.

It'll be the day after my birthday, and I would give a kidney to both be there and to also see you in the flesh, Sensei-sama.

All my best wishes,

Emotional show tonight by Christy Moore. It was mostly a straightforward Christy show, with his regular cohort Declan Sinnott , plus a percussionist and a backing singer. Dealing masterfully with an occasionally shouty , older audience in the packed, hot, small venue Christy matter of factly included Phil & his situation in the show. Phil wasn't there but he will , we were told, be listening to a recording of it tomorrow. Prefacing a great version of Faithful Departed with a intro. Phil had sent him he later got us to sing Molly Malone for him - so cliched but so right - tears were shed by me anyway. Among many highlights were Dylan's 'Hattie Carroll & Ian Prowse's Does This Train Stop On Merseyside.

Great show and a great turnout just a pity Phil couldn't make it. Keep fighting Philip and hope to see you at the Olympia show.
