OK so ive been playing for a few months and as we all know learning to do the two hand accordion playing is bad enough. But to make things harder what can only be described as a prick gave me a button chart which has rows of 13 buttons, whereas mine being a 72 bass only has 6 rows of 12. This chord chart goes Ab Eb Bb F C G D A E B F+(pretend + means sharp) C+ G+. Now i know it has to be either Ab or G+ which is wrong, but can anyone tell me which one it is?

The C bass button and the C major chord button are going to be somewhere near the middle. One of these buttons will be shaped differently or otherwise marked. Other than that, you can try using your ears and the right hand keyboard.

Well the keyboard is stylishly out of tune, but i was wondering what the dimple in the button was for. Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand the question here. As A flat and G sharp are just different ways of expressing the same note, how can just one of them be wrong? I don't play either side of the accordion but it seems to me that the sequence is a fairly straightforward descent of 4ths.

The chord chart had 13 buttons to a row, whereas the accordion has 12 buttons to a row. As the chord chart had both the notes G+ and Ab i assumed one of those was the extra button on the chart. Counting in fifths from the C it turns out Ab is the note on the accordion and G+ is the extra note on the chart.

It seems like you answered your own question. I was going to point out - well, it looks like I am - that, yes, the left hand is configured in a circle of fifths and that the dimple is, yes, the C. On all the accordions I've played the E is also marked with something other than an dimple (5 buttons upward from C). And you've probably figured out that the rank of buttons running parallel to the root notes, the rank furthest away from the heel of your hand,consists of the thirds of the root notes, which means that you don't have to wander far to play a scale. Myself, I don't bother much with all the buttons. I used to, when I was busking, but with all the noise going on on stage, nowadays the only thing that's of any use is a drone, plus my bellows technique, such as it is, goes to hell when I try to play buttons. I got out of practice.

Yes busking, the great college passtime. I managed to find a nice book on accordion so i've actually started learning now with all the buttons but its still difficult to do them both (evil hands wanting to do the same things!!!). As for out of practice, nottingham begs to differ, although i was a little disappointed SOMEONE cut some of my favourite solos.
