Unfortunately, another trip to the West Coast is not in my immediate future

thanks for the info!!

notice to anyone coming, it's a bar neighborhood so super expensive to park, get there early or you won't find parking.

Sorry, kept meaning to post this gig, but never got round to it. It's the last Cranky George gig of the season. We're all wending our separate ways for the summer and will be back in September, hopefully for a couple of shows in Los Angeles before I have to go off to Japan and back to the West Coast with the Pogues.

I definitely need to brave the Friday night LA traffic and get my ass up there. (Especially if this is the last one for a while.)

Georgecat, can you give me any additional info on the parking and what do you consider early for the 11p show?

thanks.

Cheapest parking is on Ivar. It's 6 or 7$. Ivar between Hollywood and Sunset. You just walk through the parking lots to the club.

About 1030 or so that lot fills up and then it's the 10-20$ lots. There are a few new small random cheaper than 10$ lots if you just drive around the few blocks there.

Since they're scheduled to play at 11 (we all know that means 1130), you'll be ok if you get there before that. It's at 1200 you're gonna be out of luck for any parking under 15$, but then you'd be out of luck for the show which is worse.

Hope that helps Sharon? Making the long drive up here then??

I am definitely making the drive!! Wouldn't miss it. So if I get there by 8 or so, I should be ok for parking? The lots for parking, are there signs or anything? I'm not an LA gal, so it's all greek to me!! Thanks for your help.

Cool! 8 is very early, you'll be fine.
If you want a good place to eat, on the corner of Ivar and Hollywood is Kung Pao Kitty. Their General Tso's Chicken is to die for and good place for single table diners.

No signs, only lot attendants. Just pull up to their little booth and give them cash, then park wherever. All lots have the little booths. You might be able to find street parking too, if you're coming in that early. Worth a drive around.

It's still around. Brad has it now, but with him standing at the back (and on such a stage as last Friday: a sort of half-sandwich-shaped afterthought in the corner, and they've done Hotel Cafe up, so I'm told) you're not going to see it very well, unfortunately. But we needed a snare and it made sense to have Brad play what stands for a bass drum.

How did it go? Started late, because bands are booked for an hour each, at, whatever, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve and you can't expect any band to stick to that. As it happened, we had to knock three or four songs off our set (and we'd timed everything too, in rehearsal) when we got the shout from the sound man.

It was very cheek-by-jowl up there and guitar cables underfoot and no-one but me had a towel and no room for the music stand, but then, thankfully, no time for the captain swinging in the trees song (which is now the only song I need notes for because I just can't commit the words to memory). We did a new song - another one of Kieran's because he's so goddamn incontinent when it comes to song-writing - which someone described as sharing a lot with a Nick Cave song. I don't know about that. It's drone-laden and guitar-driven.

I hung out with Rockers77 outside and met with Carmen, made eye-contact with Georgecat and had a drink with SharonC at the bar.
