Accordion Tab???

Post Sat Apr 29, 2006 4:09 am

I don't know what else to call it... Sheet music, maybe? (Yeah, I also play guitar)

Is there anywhere online where I can find sheet music or something to help me figure out parts? A lot of them go by so fast I can't pick up all the notes. I know I can get the chords from the guitar tab but I'm interested in some of the leads.

I sat down and jotted down the entire accordion part to Sea Shanty on some manuscript a little while ago. I've been meaning to do some more and think I'll stick down Medley at some point. I dunno, Sea Shanty is pretty simple, but I could transcribe it into some program if you like. Its not perfect; I've tried my best with the grace notes, but probably missing the tiny little tweaks you can hear on the recordings.

If I ever end up writing up more (just figured out most of Waxie's Dargle) I'll throw them up here, but right now I've only got some of the basic stuff.

Accordion Tab

Post Fri Nov 24, 2006 1:25 am

Hey, if you're still needing some of that, I've been doing the same thing. I take the sheet music (produced from .abc files), the chords (often from tune books or on the web), and then when I figure out which fingering works best for me (not the same for everyone), I'm writing them down. I'd be happy to swap tunes and tab/fingering numbers if you'd like.

Just post names of songs you´d like to learn.

Now I can remember I play:
battle of brisbane, repeal of licencing laws, boys from the county hell, both Paddys (García and working on the railroad), Kitty, Sally MacLennane, Jesse James; Thousands are sailing (Played by Philip), Lullaby of London, Young Ned of the Hill, White city, Sayonara, Rain street, whiskey in the jar, Irish rover, Star of the County down and Parting glass. I used to play Rainy night, Fairytale and Pair of Brown eyes too, I guess I could dig them up from my head.

Accordion sheet music

Post Wed Apr 25, 2007 10:00 pm

Has anyone bothered to compile accordion sheet music for Pogues songs? While I would settle for just "Boys From County Hell," I'd think there's plenty of us who'd find it a valuable resource.

I'd love to have Sally MacLennane, Young Ned of the hill, Boys from the County Hell and Brisbane.

Thanks...

Yeah, I really, really want to learn how the HELL you play "London Girl", James. That's a freakin' amazing song! Fingers flying. You should post a YouTube video! ;]

I was scared someone was going to ask. I've no idea how that came about, other than we all agreed that it should be 'cajunny'. All I know is that, after standing in my little room, going over the recording, again and again, at Elephant Studios, I had to lie down for a long time.

Boggard Jon: How do you prefer it? Notes or some sort of tab? Or letters?

LOL! I guess it's a good thing I've not run into you yet, then. I've always wanted to ask you to play it just so I could watch what you were doing. I like to pretend when I'm in the car that I'm playing along... but I know my fingers aren't doing the right thing... you get some crazy looks from people when you're air-accordion-ing.

Notes or letters work. Once I get the basic idea down I can kind of pluck it out note by note.

thanks!
