The Walker Roaders

Post Fri Jun 28, 2019 9:34 pm

James is teaming up with members of Flogging Molley and The Dropkick Murpheys to create The Walker Roaders. Seems as though they're doing an album and everything!

It is, and this is surely good news overall, although i liked The Low & Sweet Orchestra & Cranky George too, and am a bit sad none has evolved into a "proper" band.

But maybe i just need to move to LA and then i would realize they are / were all "proper" bands.

The Low & Sweet Orchestra was proper (in that they released a CD and toured to support it). They jsut had the terrible luck of having their label offer no support and then get acquired. I really liked them though. I wish they had done more.

Their self-titled album is out now - and it's bloody fantastic!! I'm totally hooked. James' singing voice, complete with his broad Mancunian accent, is a hidden treasure. His accordion harks back to the best Pogues material. He wrote all the tracks too.

Oh dear, it's awful. 'The Old Road To Sligo' is a poor attempt at 'Broad Majestic Shannon'. James is an incredibly talented musician and writer but he should stick to those and give up the singing.

I like it. I think it will continue to grow on me as did the Low and Sweet Orchestra

I mean, it's all down to personal preference, but he sure as hell sounds better than Shane for the last 20 years or so!

I actually wish he was upping the accent, i loved his miserable-sounding Manchester voice in "Hey Ho", and i'm enjoying these tracks so far.

Really? Have you not listened to Live In Paris?

Or do you mean because Shane hasn't recorded his own album for 20 years?

I've got my ticket ($10 bucks!!) and I'll be down the front, singing along. Who else is gonna make the trip?
Get on it now, people! Let's end the year with a blast.
