Drunken Boat guitar chords

Post Fri Feb 10, 2006 11:18 pm

This is one of my favorite songs and I would love to learn to play it. Anyone worked it out?

I'm sure someone can produce a well written tablature sequence from an online source, but its a pretty simple progression. I was fooling around on a nylon weeks ago and that song somehow came into my mind. Try fitting C minor, F minor and G which if I recall correctly is more-or-less the turnaround. For all I know there may be a G minor in there as well. I do not believe they are your basic formations either (that is, try fooling with the naughty chords for more elaborate sounds). ANYWAY good luck.

I was thinking about what I just wrote and realized I really set myself up for a blow from Philip if he happens to see this thread. Great fuckin song though - (not my defense, really is).

It is a great song. Mr Fearnley has never written a better one (unless you count "The Rock Upon Which All My Dreams Will Perish") but I only knew the chords for as long as it took to record it, as we never did it live. Over to you Jamesy.

I think these are the chords, but I can't be sure without having to go down to the cellar to get the guitar. I've been playing this song in Am rather than Cm because my voice (I've been singing it with the Cranky George Trio) is a bit more baritone than Spider's. I'm not attaching any value to the word 'baritone'.

intro
Am
E
Am
Am C Dm F

verse
Am E E Am Am Dm E
chorus
Dm Am E Am Dm Am E E E E

tune in the middle (and half of it at the beginning)

Am / / / / /

Am / / / / /

Am / / / / / / / / /

Dm / / / / / / / G /

E / / / / /

Am / / / / /

Am / / / / /

Am / / / / / / / / /

Actualy the original chords are Cm G Fm, but they're a little tougher to keep up during fast ska playing.
