Incidentally the album was officially released on April 20. It's now available from all the usual outlets, but using these Amazonian links helps pay for Medusa:

Amazon UK
Amazon USA
Amazon Germany
Amazon Japan

The US and UK Amazonians also offer less expensive, more immediate gratification high(ish) quality MP3 purchase.

It's a nice album. It's guitar-driven pop and shares a lot stylistically with the prior self-titled BISH release. You should own it.

Damnit DzM! I wish I would have seen this link last week. I already ordered it from Amazon. :( Next time for sure!

I like it a lot! I like the first album a bit more, but there are some great tracks on SBM.

No worries. Medusa is a forgiving leaky raft.

In the future if you find yourself buying THING from Amazon and want to support Medusa, just go to the front page of Medusa and bonk on one of the Amazon links (obviously for your region). Then navigate away from whatever that landing page was and shop as usual. Anything you add to your basket for 24-hours after following that link throws a few pennies down Medusa way.

Honestly the first album took longer to grow on me. It could just be that in 2001 I was still pining for new Pogues music and had a desperate hope that if they weren't going to make it together then they would make it separately (to a small extent I blame Terry for this since his Dancing to the Céili Band release somewhat reinforced that idea). I think I was a bit less open-minded on my first few listens to bish than I should have been because of this expectation.

There's an interview with Mr Hunt on the new album, Bish, The Pogues and other things in the new (May/June 2009) edition of Rock'n'Reel magazine, which now seems to be calling itself R2. Don't think it's available online, but it's well worth a read.

If it’s well worth a read, how about giving others the chance to read it? Scanners rule. ;)

Except when they are bust. Bah.

When/if I have the time, I may try to key it in. But given my rudimentary keyboard skills, this could take some time.

Rock'n'Reel magazine is now R2 (Darryl Hunt featured)

Post Sat May 16, 2009 5:39 pm

Issue 15 sees Rock’n’Reel the magazine adopting a flashy new logo and a new streamlined name, R2. The bumper 116 page festival issue includes interviews with and features on Cara Dillon, The Decemberists, Tim Buckley, Julie Felix, Vetiver, Sugar Blue, Bonnie ‘Prince ‘ Billy, Adrian Edmondson, Pete Morton, Clive Gregson, Darryl Hunt, Amy Speace and lots more. It’s our usual popular mix of established artists and emerging voices … something for everyone and plenty for all.

Plus … we’ve all our regulars (including the most extensive review section of any music publication in the UK), our First Takes mini-feature section, It Started With A Disc, Open Mic and news round-up, plus new regulars Insight, Inside Job and Venues We Love. Each issue offers a hundred packed colour pages covering the best sounds around.

Then there’s our free cover-mounted, full-length, jewel-cased Un-Herd CD presenting some of the best emerging acts from the worlds of roots, rock, folk, blues, singer-songwriter and country, alongside more familiar artists. This issue’s featured artists on our CD include Elbow Jane, The Men They Couldn’t Hang, Roger Chapman, Show Of Hands, Adrian Edmondson And The Bad Shepherds, Angie Palmer, Little Johnny England, Billy Childish And The Chatham Singers, Walking Wounded and more. Listen and read … it’s a great combination!

We’re in WH Smith, Borders, HMV, plus lots of other newsagents and retail outlets. We’re distributed by COMAG and all newsagents can order Rock’n’Reel without fuss (please let us know if you have any problem doing so); just ask them to get you a copy. You can also subscribe for a year at the new recession beating sum of £19.75 (UK)(or buy single copies and back issues) via the web site: http://www.rock-n-reel.co.uk/subscribe.cfm or
