The Christmas edition of Irish Tv guide The RTE Guide tells us -

' Celebrity Jigs'n Reels is back on our screens for a special New Year's Eve dance-off. Seven celebrity contestants - GAA star Oisin McConville , Celia Holman Lee, Fair City's Hilda Fay , comedian Gary Cooke , The Pogues singer Cait O'Riordan , The Afternoon Show's Trevor Keegan and Q102 DJ and Big Brother runner-up Ray Shah will battle it out on the dancefloor for the coveted prize'

The site for the show's hugely successful series earlier this year will give you an idea what it involves -

This show was/ will be widely promoted so this could be one of Cait's more high profile outings in a while.

Celebrity Jigs ‘n’ Reels New Year’s Eve Party

About the Show

Celebrity Jigs ‘n’ Reels is back for a special New Year’s Eve Party. Live from Ardmore studios, the popular RTÉ show will ring in the New Year with seven brand new celebrity contestants who have given up their time and energy over the Christmas holidays all in the name of charity. Also expect to see a few familiar faces from the show’s last series.

Marty Whelan will be returning as presenter and the judges for this very special show will be Jean Butler, rugby pundit and “Irish Dancing afficiando” George Hook and dancing supremo Colin Dunne. As with the previous series our seven celebrities will be partnered and tutored by an Irish dancing professional.

Each celebrity contestant has already started the arduous task of learning steps and are in full time rehearsal with their partners. Each duo will perform one dance on the show. The public will then have the chance to vote for their favourite.

For this special show the celebrities will be Armagh GAA star Oisin McConville, Fashionista Celia Holman Lee, Fair City star Hilda Fay best known as the show’s Tracy McGuigan, comedian Gary Cooke from the extremely successful Aprés Match, The Pogues singer Cait O’Riordan, The Afternoon Show’s Trevor Keegan and Q102 DJ and Big Brother runner up Ray Shah.

As in the last series, gone our the traditional Irish airs, instead our celebrities will be box stepping their way to an exciting soundtrack of contemporary pop and rock hits.

The show will be broadcast on RTÉ One from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. The judges will give their comments and vote on the performances of the celebrities. The results show starts at 11.15pm when the four contestants with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated. The voting lines will stay open through what promises to be an incredible ensemble performance, the final tally will be done and the winner announced.
The charities benefiting from the show will be Focus Ireland and The Simon Community.

The show will be broadcast live from Ardmore Studios.

Maybe the Pogues should bring her on more tours with them again, then she won't be subjected to this reality dribble. "Rocky" Cait O'Riordan deserves much better.

:?: Isn't Cait doing these shows of her own free will? I would guess
that she must have "profited" quite well in her divorce from Elvis, no?

Just wondering...

Ireland has cool Reality shows (Celebrity Jigs N Reels?) as compared to American reality shows which I think suck. I mean, come on...The Apprentice?

Ian -- I don't mean to be argumentative, but don't you think that if she "deserves much better" then she probably wouldn't be "brung along" -- rather she should "come along", or "join in" ... I mean she's as much a Pogue as any of them, right? I think you would agree, and I'm just being hypercritical. :)

I have a pair of audience tickets for this but it looks like I will not be able to go. I don't drive and no one is willing to drive me to the Wicklow studio its coming 'live' from on Sunday evening ( New Years eve) , not drink all evening and drive me back to Dublin in the early hours of New Years day. If anyone here wants to come and can take me , PM me.

Jeez! You just reinforced the Irish stereotype stuff that I thought was not true. You mean to tell me that there is no Pogues/Radiators fan out there in Dublin who is willing to stay modestly sober long enough to get yuz to and from the show? I mean if this was in Glasgow and gas money was the issue, etc.. , but we're really talkin just a willingness to stay sober for a couple of hours.... hell. Best of luck.

Eric-is she as much a Pogue "as any of them"? I seem to recall reading
that she wasn't allowed to join them to receive the Meteor(?) Lifetime
Time Achievement Award and she wasn't happy about it. I asked about
the background story at the time, but there seems to be a code of silence
about the post-2004 Cait/Pogues relationship.

First off my name is Iain, and yes I don't think she should subject herself to the drudgerries of reality television, it is hands down the worst form of entertainment. But, she does have a bitter relationship with the band, the whole Costello issue hasn't seem to dissipate over time.

Iain, not Ian

The organisers 'phoned today to check if I was still going ( I wonder do they keep an eye on this forum?!?!) so I said 'no' so I'll have to withdraw my request/offer of a ticket to this , sorry.
