My mistake, the Zen Sushi date is the 3rd. We are not playing Molly Malones.

March 24, Thursday

Full URL

<blockquote>"...the Filthy Thieving Bastards take the influences of their independent upbringing and combine them with the sounds of the legendary Pogues and other folk-fueled rockers. They create an intoxicating blend of musical styles, playing stripped-down working-class ballads about love and life, such as "Between the Lines" and "After Thoughts," and songs featuring accordion, violin, piano, pedal steel, and mandolin like "Death Is Not the End" and "Wasting Away." Joining the Bastards for this show is Spider Stacy, a founding member of the Pogues, whose high-proof distillation of traditional Irish music combined with the piss-and-vinegar attitude of punk has been the stuff of myth since the band's inception more than 20 years ago. Word is that the show features a set of both FTB originals and classic material by the boys from the County Hell themselves. Grab yourself a pint and prepare to party like the Irish Rover. Groovie Ghoulies and the Rock and Roll Adventure Kids also play.
10 p.m., Cafe du Nord, 2170 Market, S.F. $10.

FTB at Cafe Du Nord

Post Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:35 pm

I saw the show at Cafe Du Nord on Thursday night and it was amazing. Spider sang all these great old Pogues songs like Transmetropolitan (my all time favorite song), Sick Bed, Streams of Whiskey and many more. I even got to shake the hand of Spider, but couldn't get his autograph due to the mobs of people, circumstances, etc. Even the FTB songs I really like. THeir lead singer did a great job on Irish Rover (though he had to read the lyrics from a piece of paper). I would have been happy to jump on stage and sing it myself. Anyone considering going to the remaining FTB shows in California DEFINATELY should go. I was transported back in time to 1985!

Spider and Fearnley in Silverlake!

Post Mon Apr 04, 2005 6:55 am

I've been out of the loop lately, and haven't kept up with the Forums. I never could have imagined Spider and James Fearnley perrforming in Silverlake, about 20 minutes from where I live! I missed it-how depressing....Would have been a much quicker trip than the plane ride to London in December. The more I think about it, this really is depressing. Would have really loved to have seen Fearnley go at it one more time. I'm going to lay down.
