your whistle tunes

Sorry if that´s wrong forum, I wasn´t sure where to put it.

I thought with so many whistle players here, it would be sad not to share anything, comment it and so on. I guess that since I started this, I should add my stuff first...

I´m not especially proud about most of the stuff, I´m too lazy to do it all right (especially Pogues songs were recorded just once and by ear, with no practising) I´m afraid Hope you like it, when I do these tunes better, I´ll give them here.

What I meant about not being too proud of it - I can play with reasonable technique I think, the problem is, there are no irish whistlers here (honestly, there are almost no whistlers at all), so I have no clue whether it sounds right or no - I´ve read somewhere, that classically educated players (which I am) often have problems with "feeling" irish tunes, so I´m sort of worried about it.

Some of tunes I´ve uploaded sound a little bit rushed - and as far as I´ve found, it needs about half year until it settles down...so when that happens, I´ll repost it

Here and there it does sound a little rushed, though that would certainly come good if you were playing in a band or in a seisúin (session), so don't worry too much about it.

There is no way of knowing whether it sounds "right" or not. Every individual is different and if it feels right, it is right. I spent years persuading Spider that his unique style of playing is much more interesting and wild than the more formal patterns beloved of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann, the outfit that attempted, for decades to arbiter on whether or not players were keeping true to the "tradition". I got news for those boyos - though I first told them this in 1972 - arbiter schmarbiter. Play for the joy, not the "correctness". Unlike Mozart or Schuman, this stuff is not written down (not, at least, by the original composers), so it's yours, all yours, to do with what you will.

hey thanks, pyro. my son is learning guitar, and "swallowtail jig" is his favoirte thing to play so far, so i'm just stuck it on his ipod so he can play along.

Philipchevron: All right, thanks! You´re right with playing in a band though - when I play at least with one guitar, it goes really well, playing alone is the toughest part for me right now.

Indeed, Spider´s style is unusual and very pleasant I haven´t heard him playing any "usual" dance tunes, but at least in Pogues (and Snake) songs, it sounds awesome...well, it was due to him, why I picked my first Clarke Sweetone...
