Hello and Merry Christmas for all from Finland

I read this old book for Pogues and there where mentioned drink that
Shane has invented. The Finnish Rover, Guinness an Vodka. Do anybody
has a glue what is that dring. I mean how much Guinness and how much
Vodka. Receipit of that interests me. It cant be good, but after now drinking
12 years old Jameson everything goes.

I am supremely confident about this recipe, though I've never tried the drink.

Ingredients:

As much Finnish Vodka as you've got handy
As much Guinness as you've got handy, draught or bottled

Method:

Mix together

I suggest you start trying different amounts until it tastes right or until you can't taste anything!

My aunt is from Finland and says GERR PISCH!!!! (Don't know how to spell it)

Coffee we drink in Finland so that we put coin in the bottom of mug and add
coffee so much that you can not see the coin. Then add vodka so much that you can see the coin and coffee is ready. It is called "plorö kahvi"

Is suppose that aunt try to splutter "kippis". Same as cheers. I also find out that I wrote to wrong topic. Sorry for that. That it makes when you drink whiskey. My first time in here and I wrote in place what opened first when I came to this fine pages.

Here is straight lone in Pogues book I read. The Lost Decade. Written in 1988.

"Blooms Hotel, proved more entertaining than the actual gig.

Dublin was the best place in the world for The Finnish Rover (a Guinness and vodka cocktail invented by MacGowan) and there was no bar where it tasted like this."

Can somebody walk in this Hotel and try to order one . If there is such a hotel anymore in Dublin. I am not sure is she (the writer) meaning that the hotel is same place as bar she meantioned.

Of course all advices are good, but I really want to know
is there bartender who can mix the drink because all Pogues history I can related with Finland is that story about drink.

Well, we played Helsinki a few times, our first visit was 1985. Maybe some other Finnish towns also. I'm pretty sure we did a big Featival in Helsinki once. Most of us got eaten to bits by mosquitoes, not something one automatically expects to occur in Finland.

Blooms is where we regularly stayed when we were in Dublin, but we haven't stayed there for many years and I'm sure the bar staff have changed several times since. Our late night parties in the bar of Blooms Hotel became quite legendary for a while. It was the only place to be when The Pogues were in town!

But I'm pretty certain that a request for a "Finnish Rover" today would be greeted with a blank or puzzled stare. Shane was always "inventing" shortlived Cocktails, based upon or influenced by places we had just been and alcoholic drinks we had experienced for the first time. Finnish Vodka would have been no exception!

Thank you Philip for clearing things. I also played rock music in late 70`s.
Enough to see how hard life that can be. Bars we played in Helsinki was free of mosquitoes, but you have probably been in northern part of Finnland.
It is good that some enjoyed your visit. That is why there where drunken mosquitoes in that time. Seriously it is pity that I miss your gigs in 80`s.
If you ever come to Finnland I`ll be there. If not, I probably have to flight
to Dublin or some near countries you are playing.What comes to that drink it is better that I do my own experiments.Like Shane.
