During the Hell's Ditch tour, MacGowan was highly intoxicated due to his love of sake, and fell out of the back of a tour van and smacked his head on the pavement. I think that overall, other factors, not just drink and drugs have played a factor in the overall deteriotation of his teeth.

Wasn't that Shane I saw singing "I Love Paris" with the Pogues on the "Red, Hot and Blue" video with fake teeth a few years back? Also a very nice performance with Kirstie singing "Miss Otis Regrets".

The fact that Shane doesn't look like the type to brush his teeth three times a day might have helped in the deterioration of his teeth, too.

I think you saw Helno, with his band Les Negresses Vertes. He had a similar look (and lifestyle) to Shane. Sadly, he died of a drug overdose not long after "Red, Hot and Blue" came out.

No experience at all, it seems. As Siobhan MacGowan said, when the story first saw the light of day: "The story isn't true - it was given to the paper by a mentally-challenged local called Dan Gleeson. So don't worry - Shane's teeth are in tact (ish)."
Which does not answer your question, but at least can banish worries.

The Irish Sun eventually got to hear about this "story"today. Their editorial went something like this
Shane MacGowan sat on a wall
Shane MacGowan had a great fall
All the dentists, doctors, surgeons and nurses couldn't put Shane's teeth together again.
It probably took a team of their best writers a whole night to put that one together.

Jaysus, some people, eh? Tossers.
How's the Ben today? No more getting lost at night I hope. Oh, and the 'picture' of that 'incident' at Mullach Mór is coming along nicely. Should be ready for viewing by the fan soon... hopefully. So long as it doesn't explode or nothing.
