there can't be two popes..
only one real popes, other can be sth else! mac dog runs the popes as far as oi know, oi won't judge too early, but sayin' it from me own experience numbers don't make the band!

But surely The Popes are more than just Maddog? Stick Phil Chevron on stage with a bunch of other people and it would be great, but it wouldn't be The Pogues (it would probably be The Radiators, but that's another thread entirely!).

Seems to me that The Popes as we know them really are no more. There has been a parting of the ways that, while it may result in two great bands emerging from the ashes, means we won't ever see The Popes that supported Shane and recorded Holloway Boulevard again. Which is a real shame.

I'm only guessing though. It would be nice if someone actually told us what was going on, but then The Popes have never been run as a professional organisation the way The Pogues now are.

Tom the Beast was great part but sadly hes not w.oith us any more...
anyway.. any band, has people who are more into it than the rest.. devotion and spoirituality of one band doesn't come the same from all members, so from me point of view even for a band that is not exactly headed by one man, there are always few who stand out, who carry it and are the essence..

seems they sort of ended like the pogues
it was never really official
it fell apart over time
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

What a shame this is- holloway Boulevard was a great album, it would be nice to see a Popes band touring and i'm sure they could attract a descent sized crowd

First let me say that have no argument with Bob,Andy r any other ex members of the POPES.I didnt attend the gig cos I wasnt invited.I KNOW Shane would have done anything 2 help TOMMY an I learned from his management that he was in America at the time,so my guess is anything u read was speculation.I belive the gig the lads played at the underworld was brill n they raised quiet arespectable sum 4 TOMS funeral expenses.Im sure the done him justice.I would like 2 ask people 2 give their e mail address n stop hiding behind their computers.Good luck 2 u all his MADDNESS ............"

Wow my YouTube videos are getting a good airing lol

I was at that BCS gig on the 23rd and The Popes were good, though not as good as those at the Underworld.

THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF INTEREST in the girl who sang with us @our last gig .She has a solo career. Her name is Lisa Knapp n she has brillant new Album out co produced by our fiddler /banjo /accordion player Gerry Diver. Its called WILD AND UNDAUNTED its brilliant.BUY IT .Next week Ste is uploading on the site 2 new tracks. One -"Boys don't cry" and the other: "Raw".This will be ruff mixes and the final versions will be released in late June.Hopefully Lisa will be duetting on "BOYS DON'T CRY".So listen out next week. This will be the last chance for a free download be4 the final mixes. Also the album is close to completion. It will be released under the title
"THE POPES".This should end the argument over the name.I am one of the longest serving members ,I have received permition to use the name from the owner .As I wrote all the songs previously things will not be so differrent from the first album.Just better produced and better songs.Listen to the downloads next week.I shall also ask Ste to upload one of Lisa's tracks if she gives us permission.Listen and enjoy.Love to hear your comments.Peace and Love
