I hear that. When my partner & i got married (mostly to facilitate my adoption of the kids), we just didn't tell anyone, except a few friends who we had as witnesses. Had to yell at the kids to get out of the fridge midway thru the "service", so it just wouldn't have been enjoyable for the parents, so we didn't invite 'em.
Still, our friends brought two cakes (the kids made a lego bride & groom on one), there exists a truly
lovely photo of the kiss, which i was able to give to my dear Grandma (to whom weddings are very important) before she passed, and we got good & pissed up after. But trying to please everybody else... well, it just can't be done.
