Hi sarah,

I'm the Anne-Marie that you mentioned a while back. A friend mentioned that my name had popped up on this site so I thought I would reply. You know by now that is the tommy from years back who used to play with James. Tommy was a warm and talented man and will be missed by many. I was lucky to have seen Tommy perform endless times here and abroad and without exception he was astouding.

RIP Tommy - sympathies to his family and friends.

There's a nice short obituary on Tommy in the new edition of "MOJO".

I was in a pub on the Holloway Road on Sunday Afternoon and there is a picture of Shane and the Popes on the wall (from a gig in there by the look of it) Someone has written ‘R I P Wild Head’ on Tom’s head.

Two months and I still can't believe it.

Rest in Peace.

I watched Live @ Montreux the other day for the first time since Tom Mac died and it was somehow more profound viewing. I really concentrated on his playing and it really brought it home to me what a fantastic musician he clearly was. I am sure he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Do not know for sure but
my guess would be ;
Paul 'Mad Dog' McGuinessVocals, Guitars
Bob 'Lucky' Dowling Bass, Vocals
Andy 'Reg' Ireland Drums
Brian Kelly Mandolin, Banjo

But you could be without any of the above members with the exception of may be Paul McGuiness. Maybe somebody else on here knows for sure .

At the risk of making myself look a complete sap (but so what), didnt Tommy MacManamon play on a Depeche Mode track somewhere ? I'd be genuinely interested, by the way

Tommy did indeed play with the Mode, I believe. And toured with them (with Marxman) sometime in the early '90s? Can't remember the details at this moment...

That's news to me and I have all their stuff. Gonna have to check...

No, the old Lego is still lurking in the house somewhere. I should go and find it now. While I'm waiting for the special Pogues set, of course.

Doktor, this is from the front page of the PRS site, http://www.shanemacgowan.com: "ShaneMacGowan.Com would like to extend condolences to friends, family and fans of Tom McManamon. Tommy sadly passed away on December 15, 2006 after a long battle with illness. Tom was best known as the banjo player in Shane MacGowan's band The Popes. He was also part of Storm along with James McNally. Throughout his career Tom guested with The Pogues, Depeche Mode, Joe Strummer, U2, Sinead O'Connor, and many more...."

But although I'm sure this is something I knew once, and although there's a lot of DM stuff in the house, I can't quite remember the when/where/how. So over to you...

I have a lot of Mode stuff, and cannot think what track he might have played on. I would hazzard a guess that it would be on one of the albums from Ultra onwards, maybe Exciter. Although some of their remixes and edits on B-sides could be a bit different.
