Shane sings My way Nike promotion?

Hello, in the book "a drink with shane macgown", Shane said that he didn´t want to record his version of MY WAY, but he had to it.
Does anyone know why he had to do it and why he did not want to record it?

As it was part of a huge advertising campaign for some product or other, I can only assume the size of the cheque influenced his decision. They MADE me do it. They gave me LOADS of money.

huge Shane and Pogues fan for YEARS.

I have every song they/he has ever done probably, and listen to em all the time.

I have run into a problem...

Back in the 1990's Shane did a rendition of Sinatra's "My Way" for a Nike commercial.

I have the audio...its easy to find via p2p actually.

What I am looking for tho, is the actual commercial....or some video to put w/ the audio (it needs to be on youtube!)

If anyone reading this knows where I can find it...or knows how to make videos, and can put that song to some cool image of shane for youtube it would be extremely awesome.

From what i remember of that commerial, it didn't feature Shane in any way other than the song. I think that the music was palyed throughout the commercial but not all of the track was used. Again, from memory, the commercial featured an athelete running through various types of terrain and ended with a close up of the "shoe". I don't think the ad ran on TV for all that long - a few weeks maybe.

Also, is it only me or does Shane's voice seem "speeded up" or something on the "May Way" recording?

Shane's voice was speeded up. I remember speaking to one of the band about this. The vocal sessions for this went badly, mainly owing to Shane not being bothered with the whole exercise. As a result, it was a cut and paste job for the most part (loads of repeated parts) with his voice being sped up. I've got a tape of the original version which is slower.

I always loved it...better than Sinatra s original even, IMO...and WAY better than the Sex Pistol's version.

Never even knew it was from a Nike add even till after listening to it for years...then doing some random google searching trying to learn more about the amazing man's life.

Any signs of the actual commercial on youtube or something? The record sounds like it has Shanes voice from two different times.. At some parts it sounds like Shane from 1988 and some parts sound like something from ten years later..
