Can anywan give me the set-list of a usual night of Shane McGowan's old band when he played in London during the early 80's. I know they got a lot of Stick as the lads were starting a bombing campaign in Britain at the time. Can anyway give any details of how they were treated at the time? Tried finding information but i only got some.
I could just hear Shane beating out the Boys of Kilmicheal live in London, he would get the place up and rocking boy!!!

Prior to formation of PogueMahone Shane, Jem and Spider played as The New Republicans. Most famously, at Richard Strange's Caberet Futura club in London. They were pelted with chips by a bunch of squaddies home on leave from Northern Ireland.

When ye live in the North the 'lads' are known as the IRA. Sorry if ye did not undertand my jargon.
Why did ye think Shane was running through Brixton with a ton of gelignite or something???????

i think it was just one gig but i could be wrong? historians?
Shane's pre-pogues/pogue mahone band was the Nipple Erectors, a punk band with no particular 'Irish' agenda.

Don't you mean the IRA are known as 'the lads', rather than the other way around? And they're also known as many other things to many other people...

Dave- there have been plenty of atrocities inflicted by all sides in the conflict. Murder is murder. It doesn't matter if it's the British Army, IRA, INLA, UVF or whoever.

In the IISFGWG film, the Nips's (incidentally a group with some great songs, like Vengeance, Gabrielle, Happy Song and Infatuation to name but a few) former manager referred to the New Republicans as the Noisy Boysys.

Have you tried
The Lost Decade, Derry M. ?
PS some said "their <The New Republican's> five-song set included
The Rising Of The Moon and
The Patriot Game, plus Brendan Behan's
The Auld Triangle..."

The point I was really trying to make was Phil's:

Calling the IRA (or the British Army) 'the Lads' or 'Murdering Scum' is really far too simplistic...
Lads

Sorry for causing a hula-balo, but in certain areas the 'lads' is a term made in certain areas of the North for a different group of people.
Actually i heard a recorded version of Shane singing a drunken verse of the Boys of Kilmichael from Limewire i think. He was pissed singing it!
