The one I've got has this tracklisting:

The Church of the Holy Spook
That woman's got me drinking
The song with no name
Aisling
I'll be your handbag
Her father didn't like me anyway
A Mexican funeral in Paris
The snake with eyes of garnet
Donegal Express
Victoria
The rising of the moon
Bring down the lamp

Dunno if there are multiple version circulating, like with If I should fall..., with different tracklistings.

1. Depends on version. It's so called UK revised release...

2. Shane MacGowan and the Popes -- The Song With No Name (single)
Shane MacGowan and Sinead O'Connor -- Haunted (single)
Shane MacGowan & The Popes - Live at Montreux 1995 (DVD)

It must be "original" issue

The other one looks better... i.e. has more songs on it :) Hm. Haven't listened to it in years, but I have a 20 hour bus ride coming up, so I guess I'll put it into my little travel CD box.

I'm sure that i read an interview with shane around the time of the snake's release. What i remember was that the record compay wanted to realease the singles from the snake with bonus songs on, that weren't on the album. To force people to buy both the singles and the album.

But then came the second (Full??) Version

That might be so, but right now I prefer that they do it like that instead of going bankrupt all the time.

Haunted

Post Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:43 pm

RE Haunted w. S. O'Connor
Anyone know who sings backing vocals during the line "all those lies that you never believed"? Sounds like Spider. The "reissued" Snake with the "Bonus Tracks" appeared shortly after the original (I think). I remember that i had just got into the Pogues about 2 years before that and i was hungry for new stuff - bought The Snake, then shortly after saw the "reissued" one - was a bit pissed off but bought it too! I'm now the proud owner of two CASSETTES of The Snake. Problem now will probably be getting a cassette player to play them on!

In fairness to the record company (and you won't hear me use that phrase too often), I think the re-release with the extra tracks came out after all the singles had been released and I think it's harsh to criticise them for that. If they wanted to be cynical and make a load of extra money they would have included a track or two that were unreleased so that completists would have to buy it again. As it was, there was no need to buy the re-release if you owned the singles because you would already own all the tracks. Seems fair enough in my opinion.

Regarding Shane's comments about extra tracks on the singles- I think Shane was talking about Church Of The Holy Spook. If I remember rightly, his idea was to have a limited edition single that would only be around for a while and would feature some extra tracks unavailable elsewhere.

There was 3 versions of this album on cd.
1994 The original 12 track release.
1995 US release with 3 bonus tracks.
1995 European reissue with 4 bonus tracks.

Bonus tracks:
Haunted (with Sinead O'Connor)
Nancy Whiskey
Roddy McCorley
You're The One ( With maire Brennan, Not on the US release)

The sleeve on the European reissue featured Shane on the cross. The US release featured a close up from the same photo. Only Shanes photo was showing.
