Speaking English and German (and Norwegian helps too), it's easy to pick apart Dutch enough to understand it. It's not really an own language, just a lot of other languages tossed together and pronounced strangely :-)

My fave Dutch expression: blöd gedooft (ok, written phonetically from a German POW)

Only noticed this thread now. It's a Belgian tv show so no Dutch

And being Dutch what does 'Blod gedooft' mean?

Blöd: stupid
Doof: stupid
Gedooft doesn't exist, but it would theoretically be the verb form in past tense of an imaginary verb "stupid".

So "stupidly stupided".

Supposedly the Dutch expression means "baptised in blood?". Don't kill my perfectly funny phrase by saying it doesn't exist?! :? I had so much fun with "bardkorn dunker" until someone explained what it was.

This is an "interview" on a Belgian tv-station. And the interviewer IS a real wanker. :)

So they speak Flemish. But there is no real difference between Flemish and Dutch. At least, no difference big enough to justify the two different names.

Flemish IS Dutch because once upon a time we were one country. My province chose the Netherlands
