I've been meaning to ask this but kept forgetting. What happened to those guys who beat up Shane? Also, how was his recovery? A friend told me about it when it happened, but I never heard anything else.

For a second then I thort this was gonna be a story about a drunken MacGowan literally jumping into the lavatory! Anyone else think this when they saw the title of the thread?

That's exactly what I thought as well.

Only one of reported attackers (namely Liam McInerney) was jailed for three years, and that happened in August of 2004.
As for Shane, according to innumerable evidences of impeccable witnesses he is in a great form and enjoys himself. God bless him!

Didn't Danny Clifford just mention that he took him into hospital for an abscess? After taking the pictures, naturally.

You think such trifle lika an abscess can prevent Shane from enjoying himself? You think Maurice misinforms us, loyal fans, regarding current Shane's form (which is, according to Maurice's words, better than ever during last years) ?!

Thanks MacRua. :) Yes, I knew it was in 2004, but at the time my friend said he was beaten up pretty badly, and with something large and metalic to the face. When I stumbled onto the article and saw that Shane had a fractured bone in his face, it must have been a rough recovery, and though I could see by all accounts he was in great form this Christmas season, I had no insight into the year and a half leading up to it. Yes, God bless him, real good! :D

He was attacked on the 20th (or 21st ?) Apr, but just in ten days - on the 30th of Apr - he put on a 40 minutes long performance in Budapest (as a part of a huge concert to celebrate Hungary's entry into EU).
Next gigs (in Holland on 20th and 21st May, in Spain on 22nd May) were cancelled: doctors had advised him to rest completely for at least 3 -4 weeks, without working at all. Early in June Shane and Victoria had a nice holiday in Malta. On 12 Jun he showed up in Prague, at Respect ethnic festival. And then Road to Paradise single company was launched so later Shane had no time to be down. The rest of 2004 was busy :)

To add to MacRua's almost perfect macgowan diary there was a May festival gig in Belgium, (Arlons?) which the Popes made it to, but Shane didn't. Doctors orders.
