I heard exactly the same thing. Why is it so many people like him?, he makes himself out to be so original and have invented his own style..yet julian (Lead singer of the strokes) was dressing like him years ago.As far as i see it, pete would love to have the reputation that Shane has and is trying to get it.Keeping Shane close to his side does wonders for his press too

Shane and Kate Moss are close cause she used to date Johnny Depp , before Depp got his head sorted.Doherty knows that Shanes got more talent in his little toe than he could ever dream of having , but he thinks hanging around with Shane gives him this bad boy dont give a fuck rock n roll image.
The difference is that people like Shane despite his drink and drugs excesses but most people cant stand Doherty because of his.
Its up to Shane who his mates are but put it this way i would go for a drink with Shane MacGowan but i wouldnt cross the road to see Pete Doherty.

yeah--i would have to agree with you because shane is a genius despite his troubles. pete's in the paper constantly and will probably only be remembered for getting arrested often--which is a shame--so young......and wastes his life on that shit!

Doherty is quite a fan of MacGowans it seems - he was seen to be reciting The Broad Majestic Shannon on the docu 'Who the *&^^ Is Pete Doherty?
I personally dont like Babyshambles too much but liked the 1st Libs album. And as for someone offending Doherty by calling him a 'mockney' - surely the same could be said for MacGowan about being a 'Plastic Paddy' (LISTEN TO HIS VOICE IN IF I SHOULD FALL DOCU WHEN HE'S INTERVIEWED IN HIS EARLY DAYS)

About Shane's accent. It's not much different now to the 'early days.' His original accent of course WAS irish, where he grew up until the age of 5 or 6. But he soon lost it as a teenager trying to 'fit in in the London of the 1970s. With all the bombs going off back then, a pronounced Irish accent could be greeted with prejudice.

I fucking hate that wank-head Doherty. I want to slap his stupid, ugly, spotty, untalented face SO hard.I seem to remember that fuck all people had heard of him until he started going out with Kate Moss, who I don't really like either but I do feel sorry for her getting totally fucked over by him.I heard he was gonna sell his story.Wank.I hope he does go to jail again. At least Shane manages to go about his day to day drunkenness without wrecking the lives of those around him.Petes got kids, and as someone who has been severely affected by a parent's alcohol addiction, I find his behaviour disgusting. Its NOT a good example to them.No-one should have to go through that. The guy needs to wake up and get a fucking life.Tosser.
Ok, rant over.

Wow , it's like being stuck on 'Daily Mail Island' in here. Okay so Pete Doherty is hardly a shining example to the nations' youth but anyone can see he's completely controlled by his various addictions. His biggest crime (apart from the Babyshambles album) is that he's living life outside the usual rules we as a society dictate that one should adhere to i.e. he's portrayed by most sections of the media as a remorseless drug-taking fiend sticking two fingers up at decent law-abiding public (who will no doubt have to foot the bill for this unashamed hedonism). Unfortunately the more he is vilified the more interesting/attractive he becomes to certain people .The media glamourises Pete Dohertys' lifestyle, not P.D. - if you're as riddled with addiction as Mr Doherty you probably don't have too much concern with the example you should be setting .
I doubt he sees Shane as an opportunity to further his career, by the sounds of recent Mojo interview he'll struggle to know what day it is , but i hazard a guess that as both parties are want to indulge themselves then they might enjoy the company of others who like a 'good time'? Who knows, there may be a mutual appreciation of each others work, & who are we to tell Shane who he should/shouldn't like?
As for Kate Moss don't kid yourself that P.D. has ruined her life, given her occupation it's unlikely she'd never been around hard drugs til he came along. It's not exactly a lamb to the slaughter, more the blind leading the blind.
All you Doherty bashers will no doubt cheer loudly when he receives a custodial sentence next week. Will it make you happy? If the answer is "Yes" you should maybe ask yourself why the downfall of others gives you pleasure ?

English does not have a word (that I'm aware of) for "taking joy in the failure and suffering of others," so we have to borrow your word for it.
I have to admire any language that has a word just for that.
