I think it's the Bad Seeds.

... but with all respect to Shane, Nick Cave's original version is a bit better.

On all the formats I have (7", 12" and MCD) it says "Lucy version no.2". What happened to version no. 1 ? Is it available somewhere, and how do the two versions differ ?

I've always wondered that too. (Well, not often, just occasionally).
Great song. I love the chorussy bit when they both sing it together. Cracking stuff.

Could Cave's original version be #1?

It's a lovely, lovely song, which gets a lot of play in the firehazard house.
Yes, I think Mr Cave's original is version 1. It's on the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album "The Good Son".

A very beautiful song indeed by Mr Cave.
But then, why didn“t they count the "Rainy night in Soho" versions that have been released before ? Maybe there are far too many versions to count them !?
