Funny... I just ordered it from Amazon 15 mitutes before logging in here.

It´s a great book! The story of his life being the obvious things, but it´s a very freely written book since it´s in interview form, so there´s alot of sidetracks.. and alot of laughs, and alot of "aha!"´s (Which I bet MacRua enjoys )
Im reading it right now, for the second time. And where Im at Shane is discussing irish litterature, strangely enough he doesnt seem very fond of Oscar Wilde though. Which puzzles me.

MacRua has to admit together with numerous "aha!"s there are another two passages he enjoys extremely

as for Wilde - yes, in my opinion his plays are better than Portrait... Tastes differ.

Well, my copy came in the mail yesterday and as usual, I started leafing through it, appreciating the doodles, scrawl, and pictures .... and then turned to somewhere around 1/3 of the way through and began reading. I'm now about from the 1/3 mark to the 2/3 mark. I'll finish it this weekend by reading the first third. Quick read. Very entertaining. I'll have more to say on it this weekend. So far I think its interesting how Shane tells this in a stream of conciousness way.... but he almost always comes back off of his tangents, bang on. I also noticed some inconsistencies where it comes to certain members of the Pogues, his artistic motivations, and his perception of himself as a person. Nothing I could put my finger on at the moment, but I just remember sitting there last night saying to myself... "well he seems more ..." (dare I say it and not get jumped on here?)... "drunk, in this section than he did a few pages ago, and what he just said doesn't sound like what he said before... he sounds cocky because he's drunk, and embellishing." But anyway, a great read so far. Thanks for the suggestion.

its a great read, one of my favorite books to come back to. Also, the DVD is a good watch too, I love the time he is on the Ferry and gives the english teenager an autograph...

I'd call it a fun read. I got near the end but have been sidetracked by Barstol Boy, by Behan. I am really enjoying that.

Yeh I felt he contradicted himself in the book quite a bit, but then again don't we all? I also thought it was interesting in the DVD that other members of the band insist he wasnt sacked but other people are like, he was fucking sacked, I was there...hmmm, curiouser and curiouser.. In regards to a few mesages back, I also am finding myself growing more attracted to Shane I think its his lovely blue eyes.and hes very intelligent.

Actually, it was just me ("he wasn't sacked") and Cashman ("he was fucken sacked - I was there") in individual interviews skilfully jump-edited. At the London premiere, I was sat beside Joey and when the scene came, we spontaneously high-fived each other. Gotta keep the mystery intact.

Cashman's "He was fucking sacked"-performance always gives me the creeps. Boy, can the man sound sinister....
