I can agree that this conversation is going a bit far. Two people have posted answers given by Shane in interviews, the question has been answered, let's not have this turn into some big moral discussion about alcohol like the George Best topic did.

As long Shane is happy that's all that matter to me. We All live our lifes in different ways and we all do things that may not be good for us. a clean and healthy body is not the same as happines.
"may the judged be their judges when they rot down i hell"

Why do I drink?
So that I can write poetry.
Sometimes when it's all spun out
and all that is ugly recedes
into a deep sleep
There is an awakening
and all that remains is true.
As the body is ravaged
the spirit grows stronger.
Forgive me Father for I know
what I do.
I want to hear the last Poem
of the last Poet.
-- James Douglas Morroson, the Poet...
I think everyone should be banned from driving. Drinking is less harmful
for environment

Great quotes...
I agree about the driving statement , Driving is alot more dangerous than a crazy drunk or any drunk for that matter.

That's like asking "what's the square root of a million" - nobody will ever know.

It would be more useful to discuss whats his favourite booze than talking of why he drinks...Lets drink in Shane's name!
