I feel the same...I dunno, I do think it's a real shame in a way...but then I don't mean that judgmental in the slightest...Shane has done far more for music and art than most other people on this planet, and his song catalogue of classics will remain in a class of its own forever. He practically created a whole new genre of music, his poetic lyrics and descriptions of (low)-life are unique and BRILLIANT (few are in his class imho, one would be the great Townes Van Zandt for me...) and his singing style was a fucking novelty and his voice was really beautiful in the 80's.

That being said, it is really sad that his last new stuff came out in 1997 (apart from the odd song here and there...). I do believe that it's the price he paid for his severe alcoholism and drug using, and I don't mean that judgemental at all, just telling it like it is. He peaked and blew himself up way before his time, but then again few people can come close to what he did. I'd rather have the great Shane MacGowan song catalogue forever without any new stuff than people like Bob Dylan still releasing new shit which is plain crap as far as I can see.

Rant over.

Here here, couldnt have put it better myself!

Really? Look at the Paris DVD, word perfect. And he's now singing a song he hadn't sung for for 25 years, Birmingham Six.

Have to agree on your point that we've got an immense back catalogue and I rather have that forever than some lame attempt at new material with the Cronins. But, an on form Shane recording with the rest of The Pogues would be a dream.

Aye! Won't happen though, as sad as it is... :(

Anybody read the new article in Uncut? He's making new music. Without the Pogues. With any luck we can clear the way for Spider taking over again and new music from the Pogues as well. Of course I'd like Terry to sing as well.

I'd be happy with Spider finishing his solo album, honestly.

Well, in the Shane MacGowan forum it is said that there are indeed new songs penned by our wicked songsmith:

Johnny Cronin is quoted saying, 'We've got 15 songs ready for an album. they're classic MacGowan.'

I just hope that this isn't going to turn out like the 21th century Paddy project...

I assume nothing came of this in the end?

Doesn't look like it. Shane Mac Gowan. com seems to be down too. Although ya never know where he'd spring up over Christmas. Fingers crossed they do a gig.
