Some might say - believe that you'll believe anything - but the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen claims to have the scoop on Shane's new post-Popes solo project. Read the last sentence of their blurb pasted below.

Shane MacGowan: plus Paddy Rasta

Thursday 27 October 2005 - Café

Tickets £21 (£14 concessions & regulars)

Doors Open: 8.30pm
Show Starts: 9pm

Shane MacGowan returns to The Lemon Tree after a great debut here last January for yet another famously shambolic live show.

He's been writing music for 25 years, from the early punk of The Nipple Erectors through the wild days of The Pogues and his original backing band, The Popes, with whom he recorded the finest work of his chequered and luridly documented career and he now embarks on a fresh chapter of his musical life with a new band.

Shane's last 'new band' was 6 or 8 gig residency a year or two ago at Ronnie Scott's. All shows were eventuly cancelled. Shortly before that: the 'Hellfire Club fearturing Shane MacGowan' was announced. again all gigs were cancelled or went ahead without him.

3rd time lucky?

The only musicians Shane has worked with regularly in recent times apart from Pogues and Popes are Bap Kennedy and friends from the Boogaloo. Perhaps it's them? Or has the Lemon Tree got it's wires crossed? 8)

hmmm ... So Shane's playing with his NEW band on thurs night then REFORMING the Popes the following day before taking up with the Pogues six weeks later.

Something smells ...

My guess ... Neither gig is on. Communication breakdown between the MacGowan camp and Scotland.

Hmm. "...the finest work of his... career". Not a viewpoint shared by everyone on this forum, I'd guess.

"Shane MacGowan’s show scheduled for next Thursday the 27th of October is cancelled as Shane has been unable to put a suitable backing band in place since splitting from The Popes. Refunds are available from our Box Office on production of valid tickets."
