It's akin to a spliff, but pro'ly smaller. You know that old bubblegummy reggae-lite song named "Pass the Dutchie"?

Here (in the U.S.) there's a cheap beer brand named Old Dutch.

:) Pardon my hedonism, but bongs-for-breakfast is a better cure for the hurt I feel on this day than the whiskey I'll drink later.
I vote we return this thread to it's hilarious roots as soon as possible ladies and gents. I started a serious Anzac Day thread over yonder.

Ha! Maybe Fintan should start up a (second) spinoff thread from this one -- on dutchies.

Carol: Nah. My mood swings are slow and inexorable like the passge of glaciers. Except when they're not - like now! :) Self-medication: Ahhh, 'tis a wonderful thing.

Walshy: You are indeed an 'aingeal' m'lady.

The association of the song 'Pass The Dutchie' with cannabis culture is an interesting one. In the few details I have manged to uncover, it is highly likely that the original lyrics to the popular 80s tune are a Jamaican or West Indian childrens song, referring to being hungry and poor and asking the person to "Pass the dutchie on the left hand side". From what I can establish this would most likely refer to a Dutch oven, or cast-iron cooking pot, full of rice-an-beans, or gumbo, or somesuch. It's connection to ganja, with the inference "Pass the spliff, mon" is a late addition.
