Winding up the rumour mill!

One reading of his recent statement suggests this is so.

Or should that read 'sacked'? 8)

On the plus side ... playing with the Pogues will mean reliable on-time gigs with the original, unstoppable band

On the minus the Pogues may only get together once a year at Xmas. And no more intimate gigs in small venues, weekend tours of Netherlands, Italy, Ireland ...

someone is still booking him solo gigs ... but no mention of the popes. the plot thickens.

all i know (about this topic) and something i've been meaning to say. the popes sound great. but they have...roughly... have the energy of the pogues. the pogues are vibrant and alive. and it shakes and moves you. the popes are all... leisure recording on a sunday afternoon. shane is way to...relaxed and half-assed. and verbally drunk for a lot of the recordings... which is fine. i condone it. they have some really really good songs. but the popes make me long for a lazy boy. while the pogues... the fiery energy. they're like hemorhoids. if anything of their's is going on. i won't be sitting down for a while.

Just one thing that will draw a line under this whole Pogues are better then the Popes. Just listen to The Pogues 'Live-In Brixton' CD and listen to 'Across The Board Atlantic' CD there is your answer.

I hope his new band is in more of a 'Pogues mold' then the Popes were, anyways I hope he give youth a chance.
