Wot the fuck is MacGowan playing at? Just went back to Bham after having bought a ticket there at 3pm today and a sign was up saying that he had cancelled at FIVE PM (one hour before doors opened) due to illness???? If this is at all true he surely knew this before 5pm so why the fuck didnt he tell them he was gonna cancel yesterday?? I wasnt really lookin forward to this gig that much anyway but am pissed off I went all the way to Bham when if he had just cancelled in advance (eg. yesterday or even this morning) then I wouldnt have bought the tickets then come home to wolves then gone all the way back again. Also sometimes I have gone pretty far to see MacGowan and have phoned up that day to ensure he is definately playing and if anyone did that today then the Bham Academy would have told them he was as they were still selling tickets at 3pm and such people would have been completely pissed off. Like I said, I dont care that the 'illness' might be bullshit (which I assume it is) but cancelling this late is a bit of a joke. Also all he had to do was get onstage and sing songs hes sung a million times before along with a shit band who nobody listens to anyway and he would have got payed loads for that. On Frank Skinner show he claimed to enjoy performing so what the fuck is he playing at here? Hmmmmm? Such an event as this would never never occur were this a Pogues gig, or indeed any properly managed artist.

When dealing with MacGowan shows it's best to keep in mind the philosophy of "You pays your money, you takes your chances." It's like gambling - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

In that case MacGowan should charge less for tickets. This gig was £18.50 and Stourbridge was the ridiculous price of £24.

Manchester off too -
The following message was issued by Shane's agent:
Dear SWAP Friends,
This concert has been cancelled due to Sahne contracting a severe stomach virus. Sahne wants you to know that he will bounce back. He is very sorry and upset at not being here but the Doctor has told him he must not fly from Dublin or work until he gets well.

I assume he knew about the 'severe stomach virus' which he had earlier today than at 5pm. Also if it is so 'severe' then does this mean that The Pogues will not be able to play Guilfest?

the morning after the night before
still bloody gutted ,i cannot understand how the academy had proffesionaly printed posters made up within an hour to say the gig was cancelled ,maybe all shanes gigs have them made up in anticipation of it happening?????
the cancellation was unforgivebly late ,some poor buggers flew in from canada last time ,hope they didnt this time!!his management needs scrutinising here i feel ,he must of been ill some time to know he couldnt make it .where he lives in ireland ,its a 3hr journey to dublin airport ,then a 45min flight to brum ,then at least one and a half hours to the venue .he never went to the airprort ,with this in mind it could of been cancelled in the morning .shane still attracts many fans ,with this pr hes gonna loose out big time

""Like I said, I dont care that the 'illness' might be bullshit (which I assume it is)""
why? why assume it's bullshit?
Just to play devil's advocate it is more than possible Shane's been diagnosed with something nasty.
last year or the year before he was so adamant to be at his gigs he played a whole tour in a wheelchair on medication.
doesn't make you feel better...
A Little Sympathy, Please!

I glad some one said this. Shane's fans lately have had very little compassion. OK, so he hasn't produced a line of music in I don't know how long. OK, so the chances are better with a lotto ticket than with a ticket to see Shane MacGowan. OK, so what?
Most people can never hope to contribute to this world half as much as shane did in the 90's - never even mind the Pogues! Furthermore, in my experience, most Pogues fans have had some experience with drink & drug. I would think we, of all people, could cut the man some slack.
When I heard of this on the FOS mailing list, my first thoughts were that the world might soon loose a giant of a man. Just the thought makes me feel like I've just taken a cannonball to the gut. Let's face it - Shane is not going to live to a ripe old age. He will die young. That is a tragedy, but it is a fact.
So, next time you hear Shane might be ill (whether or not it is true), try looking a little further than your wallet. If people instinctively thought that way a bit more, you just might find this would be a better world.

I think its a case of 'the boy who cried wolf'. He's cancelled so many, we cant tell whether he's ill or he cant be bothered! I can see why fans are pissed off, especially after travelling long distances, especially so late on!
