Shane's not listed on Tickets.ie for any gigs. Tried to get one for the 23rd. No Luck. Help!

The Phone number listed is no longer available so i rang the venue and the guy says the gig IS confirmed but seemed very vague about tickets. He said look at FaceBook

I would love to see THAT new band live...but when Joey Cashman is going to play like he did on the Henry Rollins Show, it might be screwed up :)
Anyway, it is great that Shane is doing something like this. Might be a sign for new material coming out someday? I can only hope for it...

Lauren Murphy

More news this week of specialist festivals in the offing for autumn, with the Beamish Folk Festival the most recently announced.

It will take place in Cork from September 30th to October 3rd, and performers already signed up include Gemma Hayes, Shane MacGowan, Eddi Reader, Sharon Shannon and Iarla Ó Lionáird. There will also be smaller-scale sets in pubs around the city, as well as workshops, céilís and markets. corkfolkfestival.com
The Waterford International Music Festival, incorporating four programmes (the Light Opera Festival, the High School Festival, the Gospel Festival and the Fringe Festival) will run from November 2nd to 13th, and promises an extensive spread of musical and theatrical acts for all ages.

Yeah, smart arse. After 5 days of trying!!!

I was away all day and didn't check the site today. Came home this evening to Mrs. McGreer and she hands me a mug of tea in one hand and an email in the other confirming 2 tickets of only 250 issued. What a woman

I collected a pair of tickets for the Summit Inn show yesterday. I rang the venue last week. The owner's wife, who answered the phone, was extremely helpful. When I explained I wasn't able to call out in person for a few days, she allowed me to reserve tickets. I paid for them on collection.

Mac Rua, I'd just like to compliment you on your Shane and Joey websites. They are great sources of information.

Mac Rua, thanks for the plaudits on my Céilí Culture review. I've no problem with it being used on 'Lunatic'. I'll endeavour to provide a review, and maybe some pics, from 'The Summit'.

Mats, I'm not promising anything because camera work isn't one of my talents. You never know though, I may get a "blast of inspiration" and educate myself.

Huh.

LEGENDARY Pogues singer Shane MacGowan's best known song is 'A Fairytale of New York'.

But next Friday night it will be 'A Fairytale of Howth Summit' when the Pogues singer (pictured) launches a new solo phase of his career at a secret comeback gig in the famous Summit pub in Howth on the north side of Dublin Bay.

Tickets for the gig are quietly on sale but only from the bar at The Summit Inn on Howth Head.

Word about Friday's special gig spread over the weekend and the €25 tickets are selling fast as fans grasped what will be a unique opportunity to see such a big music icon in such a small venue.

"It's going to be a special night," Summit Inn manager Tom Gaffney told the Irish Independent.

"It will be mainly friends and people in the area -- Shane used to live in Howth a couple of years ago and he's very popular out here. He's a very nice guy.

"We still have tickets left, but it's first come, first served. There are people coming from England and Scotland for the gig so we expect it to be a sellout."

The gig will start at around 9pm in K2, the nightclub behind the famous pub, which holds around 200 people.

In spite of the years of booze and cigarettes, MacGowan is in good voice. Over the years it was often predicted that the writer of the famous Christmas song, as the lyrics say, would not see another one.

But he's in good shape and determined to get back to what he loves best -- writing songs.

His career has taken many turns since his early days as a 1970s punk and his glory days with The Pogues.

He split with them years ago during a tour of Japan -- some of the band blamed Yoko Ono -- and formed The Popes. But that's all booze under the bridge at this stage and in recent years he has been back again with The Pogues, mainly doing summer tours and Christmas season concerts.

This summer he was touring with The Pogues again and he also played festivals with Sharon Shannon's Big Band. But he is keen to get away from just doing the greatest hits format and back to more creative ways and has put a new band together for this solo project.

Next Friday's gig is aimed at getting the band to gel before he starts writing and recording new songs.
“I know all those people that were in the film [...] But that’s when they were young and strong and full of life, you know?”

Hahahahaha...

I'm going to the UK for the weekend so will miss this gig but i'll be at the following weeks gig in the Gypsy Rose Cafe (capacity 250). I'm curious as to whether there'll be new material. I heard somewhere that the gigs will consist of classic Shane/Pogue songs, covers and some new untried material. Camera will be at the ready so. 8)
