The Simpsons... sorry.
the writers of the simpsons amaze me again.
their calender for december. instead of having it marked as "christmas day"
they have it marked "shaney mac's b-day"
well done indeed.

I love that song.
My first couple listens to Sandanista! just caused my to furrow my brows and say "What in the hell were they thinking?" but as time has gone on I've come to think of it as one of my favorite albums by The Clash. Lots of experimentation, some real creative work (and yeah - some total crap too). A real sense of irony at work too, though the children singing is a little over-used. They should have decided if a kid singing The Guns of Brixton was ironic enough, or kids singing Carreer Opportunities was ironic enough. They're both entertaining, but only one was needed for the album.
But I digress.

a friend of mine is a clash fanatic. i know it all, if not directly.
that would make a good single album, or even double album.
i'm sure it had something to do with getting that 9 album contract over with.
i've been trying to buy Strummer's Earthquake Weather album for him. haven't seen it for less than $40, yet.

Anyone have "Tis the Fifteenth Season" recorded? It's the Chirstmas episode where Homer buys the talking astrolabe for himself, Mr. McGrew, etc. Found a reference to this on
http://www.poguetry.com/mentions.htm - anyway, that was the 2003 Simpsons Christmas episode, and it would seem, the most likely place it would be. I checked the No Homers Club and SNPP.com which are the best sources for this kind of thing - no mention.
I'd check it myself, but I don't have it. Please do let us know...

EDITED: I rewatched "'Tis The 15th Season" Simpsons episode the other day and there's no Shane mention. The talking astrolabe says, "Today is the birthday of our lord Jesus Christ, and singer Barbara Mandrell." Although this is probably not the first time Shane MacGowan and Barbara Mandrell have been confused.

God, I never realized that. I just watched the episode tonight and you are friggin' right! Could it be that Matt Groening is a Pogues fan?

The refrence is a valid one. On the commentary of that episode either Matt Groening or David X. Cohen(long time Simpsons/Futurama Writer and producer) said the first time he heard the tune was from The Pogues.
Matt Groening does have his ties to the punk rock scene. He worked in Licorse Pizza(sp?) a store in California that was a punk hangout. Also he was friends with Kick Boy Face and some of the other early punk rockers.
Matt is also a big fan of Black Flag. At the end of "Bender shouldn't be allowed on Television" the cast sing the first verse of "TV Party"

Groening also likes the reggae band Steel Pulse and reviewed them back when he worked at a paper or college journal, one of those.. so he definitely likes cool music! wouldn't be surprised if he liked the pogues & shane.
