What sort did he use when he used to play back in the <i>Red Roses for Me</i> days?

I'm not sure. For some reason an EKO 12-string (always strung with just 6 strings) comes to mind. Heap of shite anyway.

Was it really strung with 6? Cause on the Vorsprung Durch Alkohol bootleg it really seems like it's a 12 string. At least it sounds like one

Ok, let's split the difference. 9 strings.

I always assumed Shane who played on the record, but I've learnt from my shiny new Kiss My Arse book it was actually James Fearnley. Which surprised me.

Shane doesn't play guitar on Red Roses for Me? How come? I mean, he definitely played it live and we could see him playing guitar in the videos. And I think I read somewhere that he stoped playing guitar for RSATL because he wanted to concentrate on his lyrics. Could someone clear that up for me? Now I am really confused...

One night at Joanne Ratcliffe's house in 1985 James Fearnley told me Shane wanted to stop playing guitar on stage with The Pogues because:
a: He is lazy and only does something if he really has to.
b: The Pogues wanted Philip Chevron's broader musicianship in the band (as did Shane) after he replaced Jem on banjo on a European tour because Marcia was pregnant - that child now sings FONY on stage with Shane!
c: He couldn't hold a drink and cigarette whilst playing the guitar.
d: Frank Murray also thought it was a good idea.

That is a lame excuse. He could have easily made such a helmet with two cans of booze, and a cigarette can be out on your guitar somewhere
