Tomorrow Belongs to Me lyrics.

Post Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:56 pm

I've been doing other lyrics, and I'd always wondered what this songs was about. Once I got through the challenging delivery I found what was an even better song than I thought. Call me butter, because I'm on a roll.

TOMORROW BELONGS TO ME

By Shane MacGowan and the Celtic Chorus

I met with respect to that old winding river
Carrying the bodies to the sea
A big black stinking manky old river
The scent still smells beautiful to me
The times and the thorns that rushes through and is gone
To live on in my fond memory
As long as I belong to Glasgie
Tomorrow belongs to me

If the dawn rises up on the city that I love
Nobody can take that from me
cos
As long as I belong to Glasgie
Tomorrow belongs to me
and
As long as I belong to Glasgie
Tomorrow belongs to me

Wherever I may roam wherever I shall go
My heart will always know where I should be
When the dawn rises up on the city that I love
Nobody can take that from me
The times and the thorns that rushes through and is gone
To live on in my fond memory
and
As long as I belong to Glasgie
Tomorrow belongs to me

I know
As long as I belong to Glasgie
Tomorrow belongs to me
As long as I belong to Glasgie
Tomorrow belongs to me
Tomorrow belongs to me
Tomorrow belongs to me
Why spend your leisure bereft of pleasure?

The first line of the song sounds to me like it might be "My mind wanders back to that old winding river".

Thanks much for the lyrics!

You are right I think, sounds like that to me too.

Checking the article Niall quoted above, I had totally forgotten about this. Did that role as the drunken minstrel in The Libertine ever make it on screen?

It got cut from the screen version of the movie, though I think you can find a small snippet among the extras on the DVD.

Thanks, firehazard, I will have to tidy up at some point and retrieve the DVD from some dark corner.
Also, belated apologies that the ticket didn't work out at the O2. I owe you a drink (several?) - next time I hope. I wish they hadn't caged us in into all those separate compartments in that Heathrow-terminal-type hangar there. Thanks in any case.
