That's why i said earlier that Shane's vocal is pretty good on Rake, but not the arrangement.

I like Mama Lou. Who's singing it?
A guy called Jack O'Grady from Galway, bass player and singer with The Cartoon Thieves who also do another song on Sharon Shannon's new album... the performance on The Late Late Show is available on youtube (i cannot post the link as I dont have access to youtube at work)

Is there a possibility to listen to the whole song (Rake at the Gates of Hell)? I've listened to the sample on www.amazon.co.uk and Shane sounded brilliant! The arrangement seemed to be not bad at all, too. I'm not so sure whether I should buy Sharon Shannon's album. Is it worth buying? Anyway, I was impressed by Shane's vocals although I only heard the short sample. His voice sounded far better than on Outlaw Heaven.

Hey thanks Jimmy. I saw this when it was on telly and was very impressed by Jack and the Cartoon Thieves. I hope they tour with Sharon this autumn.

Finally came to me when I was just listening to Shane's Mama Lou off his myspace page...

Same tune as 'Infinity' which I have on vinyl somewhere as a b-side.

I think that was a combination of Cartoon Thieves & Sharon's Big Band. Good tho.

Jack O'Grady is from Roscrea in Tipperary, a couple of miles away from Shane's own Tipperary home.

The Sharon Shannon Collection 1990 - 2005

Post Fri Sep 09, 2011 7:06 am

‘The Sharon Shannon Collection 1990 - 2005’ is a double album featuring the highlights of Sharon Shannon’s career spanning over a decade. The tracks featured on this album are selected from her catalogue and brilliantly encapsulate the scope of Sharon’s musical influences. These range from traditional Irish to dance, reggae, Cajun, classical and French-Canadian. These influences are reflected in the eclectic mix of musicians that Sharon has collaborated with over the past 15 years and include the likes of Donal Lunny, Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, Sinead O’Connor, dub master Denis Bovell, Carlos Nunez and violin virtuoso Nigel Kennedy to name but a few. While vocalists are mainly featured on disc 2, disc 1 is devoted to instrumentals and compositions that best echo Sharon’s unique accordion playing including classics such as Blackbird and Cavan Potholes.
