to see how many feedback shane gets for his shane gang tour shows me how successful a new solo career and album will be;-) but i must say the few vids i saw from the concerts didn´t impress me much...especially the sitting-shane in carrickmore...

There is a promoter in Donegal advertising Shane for a show in Donegal on 9th July.

Shane is NOT booked for this and will be on tour with the Pogues.

Killarmey gig cancelled !!

I'm afraid the Killarney gig in the INEC has been cancelled now also. Again it was poor ticket sales.

That's a terrible shame. Though no supprise as most gigs now in Ireland are not selling. Even the highest profile acts such as Prince cannot sell out and the level of radio/media advertising for his gig next week in Dublin is astonishing.

Mind you, for Shane's management to think they could go from the Gypsie Rose Cafe gig last september with a non sell out capacity of about 200 to the INEC Killarney capacity maybe 3 thousand was a bit ambitious

Who ever said that when The Pogues play punters only go to see Shane? Obviously not. The ORIGINAL (sorry, CLASSIC) Pogues line up is far more appealling than the sum of it's parts. Or any one of those parts. 8)

This article sheds some light on the Keltic Hooley shennanigans

Nashville label sues impresario over €15,000 debt

By Aideen Sheehan Consumer Correspondent
Saturday July 23 2011

A PROMINENT concert promoter's music empire is under threat after complaints from a record label about unpaid debts, and from musicians about false advertising.

Country and western impresario James McGarrity is facing insolvency proceedings from an American record label, which wants to wind up his company over money owed.

And an Irish Independent investigation has also uncovered how Mr McGarrity has been involved in clashes with a string of top music stars, including Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan, singer Johnny McEvoy and American country legend Vince Gill.

They accused Mr McGarrity, who is based in Co Antrim, of billing them as headline acts for concerts around Ireland even though they were not booked to play.

The owner of Nashville-based River Run Records, Diane Delena, is now pursuing a winding-up order against Mr McGarrity's JW Promotions after he failed to pay a €15,000 debt despite having a court order made against him last year for the sum.

The insolvency proceedings will be heard before Belfast High Court on September 15.

Ms Delena is seeking the return of money advanced to Mr McGarrity for promoting her act, Charlie Allen, which she claimed he failed to do.

The High Court in London also ruled she was due her share of profits as joint owner of the annual Country Fest festival, which Mr McGarrity promotes.

Earlier this month Mr McGarrity cancelled his Keltic Hooley festival in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, at short notice, citing poor advance sales. Beforehand, the advertised headline act, Shane MacGowan, posted a message on his official website declaring he was not due to appear.

Last night, Ticketmaster said they had refunded customers who purchased tickets for the Keltic Hooley event.

Last year Mr McGarrity fell out with Vince Gill and JohnnyMcEvoy, both of whom took legal action to stop him falsely billing them as headline acts of concerts he was promoting.

Threat

Recently, a 20-minute rant by Mr McGarrity was posted on YouTube. In the taped phone call with US radio presenter Micheal "Bear" Clair, host of 'The Sideman Show', Mr McGarrity said: "I will take you down at whatever cost, at whatever length. Believe me I will take you down. It's not a threat, it's a promise." Mr McGarrity told the Irish Independent the comments had been doctored.

Neither Mr McGarrity or his lawyers would comment further on his business dealings.

As much as I love Shane, he's gotta pull his finger out and actually release some new stuff and do a bit of promotion to get the punters in. The new band sound great, buts it's just a rehash of Pogues and Popes material, same as 15 years ago.

Here's another press article on the Keltic Hooley cancellation. The promoter must have thought Shane could do two gigs in two different countries on the same day. :D

Goats still to rock despite Keltic Hooley cancellation

BY SEÁN P. FEENY
A NORTHERN Ireland based promoter’s decision to cancel a festival that was due to take place this weekend has disappointed hundreds of fans.

The well-known Dungloe band Goats Don ‘t Shave were due to perform for the first time after many years at the Keltic Hooley in the Clanree Hotel Complex, Letterkenny alongside headline acts such as Shane MacGowan and Damien Dempsey. The festival was to take place over two nights and feature over forty acts.

Despite the cancellation of the festival, the Goats don’t want to disappoint all their fans who sent messages by email and Facebook and so they are going to proceed with a full concert and support act on Sunday night, July 10, at the Clanree Hotel - doors open at 8.30pm (Admission €20 at door).

“The band is very anxious to go ahead with the concert not to disappoint their fans as this was to mark their big comeback.

“Anyone who has bought a ticket for the Keltic Hooley is urged to return to their point of purchase for a full refund,” a spokesperson for the band said.

The promoters, JW Promotions informed bands on Tuesday that the Keltic Hooley would not go ahead due to lack of ticket sales.

James McGarrity of JW Promotions, blamed the cancellation on poor tickets sales and the headline acts’ demands for deposits.

“We had sold less than ten per cent of the tickets and the headline acts like Shane MacGowan and Damien Dempsey wanted half the money upfront and towards the end when we looked at it we knew we would need to draw a huge crowd to break even.

“People just don’t have the surplus money anymore, not even Oxegen is selling out, but the tickets for the Keltic Hooley were cheap, yet still there was no demand.”

The Donegal News understands the official Shane MacGowan website had posted a message as early as last week that the Pogues star was not due to perform in Letterkenny.

The following was posted on shanemacgowan.com: ‘There is a promoter in Donegal advertising Shane for a show in Donegal on 9th July. Shane is NOT booked for this and will be on tour with the Pogues.’

The website’s tour dates section clearly states that Shane MacGowan is performing with The Pogues in Amsterdam on Saurday night.

However, Mr McGarrity said it had originally been planned that Mr MacGowan was due to come over and perform in Letterkenny and then fly over to The Netherland
s.

A spokesperson for Damien Dempsey’s booking agents Free Trade Agency in London confirmed that the Dublin singer/songwriter had been booked for the festival, however, as they had not worked with JW Promotions before, a deposit was requested.

“As we haven’t worked with this company before we did ask for a desposit and as they couldn’t provide us with this we decided to pull out,” the spokesperson said.

I am sure that Shane fans must have been all ready to take advantage of spending the summer with Shane!! It must have disappointed them that so many of his shows were cancelled. It is the worst thing that can happen when a show is cancelled and they are unable to see the “star” perform live!!Is it viable to use losberger pavillions for music concerts?

With all due respect to Shane, this new band he's got working blows. He decided to quit the Pogues recently for this shit; it's unbelievable. Although, it's not like the Pogues moved forward musically in this entire decade anyway. Maybe time to hang up his friggin' coat.

You mustn't believe everything you read in the newspapers. Especially the Irish papers. Most especially Irish papers that purport to be Irish "editions" of Murdoch muckrags. And if you see "a source close to the beersodden star" quoted, run away.
