does anyone know if you can get an audio recording of the spancil hill duo with christie moore and what christie album would you recomend me to get , not having had any prior interest

hi. i have a macintosh, and used some free software (or the free demo version, anyway) called "audio hijack" which lets you rip audio out of virually any program, and create a wav file, or mp3 file, or whatever you want. so i made a really great-sounding disc from the performances in "the great hunger". BUT the duet with christy is clipped! the whole thing circulates as an mp3. it's from "the late late show tribute to christy moore", which also circulates amongst traders. i have yet to make audio rips from that, but i would suggest you get a copy of that & extract the audio.

or just find the mp3 if you're not audio hi-fi picky.

one note, if you use the free demo version, it only lets you rip a max of 10 min, then it gives you static. but you can do as many 10 min chunks as you like. this means, basically, rather than ripping the whole show and then cutting & pasting out what you want, you'll need to do the songs seperately. not a big burden for free software, tho.

YOu have to admit, there are few questions more vital for a drinking man. Which reminds me, tonight I saw Conor McPherson's latest The Seafarer at the National theatre. I have to say I am a huge admirer of his work as a writer without ever really believing him to be a man of the theatre. But this play breaks that duck - his first play about alcoholism since he himself quit his career as an intensive farmer of the fuzzy foam (c. Declan Lynch) and it's the first Conor McPherson play I've actually LIKED rather than admired. Many of you will know the legend of the Hellfire Club, in which the devil plays cards with a bunch of drinkers. I don't think it's giving too much away to say that the legend is revisted here in style. And now Irish culture has a great Christmas Eve play to go along with its great Christmas Eve song.

This was first shown on BBC2 around 97 to promote Shane and The Popes "The Crock of Gold". It is a right good documentary however I have since heard that Shane hates it. What really makes it is the different artists doing Shane's songs.

The are all top notch however the best has got to be Ronnie Drew singing "The Dunes" at the end of the show....absolutely brilliant.

Quite intresting the Shane and Sinead relationship. I was watching an old Late Show thing i have on dvd from2000 I think where he is saying the whole herion bust thing was her just trying to get media attention and if she had really been a friend she wouldnt have done it. Then I read an interview with Shane from 2003 where he had come off herion where he basically he says that she is truely a great woman who had saved his life.

maybe when he got clean he realised what she had done for him

The music in "The Great Hunger" is great, i actually ripped it all and burned it to cd.

The best place i've ever found for live shows is www.dimeadozen.org - it tends to be full (there's 40,000 members or something), but auto-purges like every 15 min. Pick an evening, try to register, and keep trying, you'll get in. I've got ***tonnes*** of Pogues stuff there over the years.
