Shane joins Jools Holland for 33 date tour

NEW AUTUMN/WINTER 2011 TOUR DATES. SPECIAL GUEST: SHANE MACGOWAN
Tickets are now on sale for the annual Autumn/Winter Tour.

Joined by his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, with Gilson Lavis, Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall, Jools will embark on a 33-date tour from Friday 28th October through to Thursday 22nd December.

The special guest on the tour will be the legendary Shane MacGowan who, with The Pogues, wrote and recorded the universally loved Christmas anthem Fairytale Of New York (with the late, great Kirsty MacColl), which reached No 2 in the UK singles charts. He also collaborated on the track Just To Be Home With You, written by Jools and featured on the Jack O The Green – Small World Big Band Friends 3 album.

Isn't the legendary Shane MacGowan busy with some other band around December? Don't tell me that really WAS a farewell Christmas tour!

Plus, I don't much care for Just To Be Home With You... feeling grumpy now.

According to the tour publicity, "MacGowan will join Jools to create a unique collaboration every night of the tour".

It doesn't reveal who's going to have the job of getting Shane onstage every night of a 33-date tour. Or whether you'll be entitled to your money back if you buy a ticket and get a Shaneless evening.

The tour's coming to one of the local venues here too. Which would be the first time Shane's appeared in this city of learning and culture since his last tour with the Popes. But I'm still not sure that I can face a whole evening of Jools' boogie-woogieness.

Nearly everyone says that they have trouble understand Shane MacGowan talk, but I've never had much trouble. Jools Holland, however, is always indecipherable.

ROFL!

Accompanied by an overload of boogie-woogie piano for the next hour, whatever the musical genre . . .

Has anyone heard the rumour that Jools will now be accompanying The Pogues on their next tour? The "And The Band Played A Weird Boogie-Woogie Version Of Waltzing Matilda That Seemingly Went On For Hours" Tour.

I'm delighted that we can go to the concert and come home the same night. We will only have to drive 20 miles instesd of 120! Really hoping to hear lots of songs from the Pogues set list as I'm not really happy about an evening of R&B. We saw Shane at the Ceili Culture in Dublin last year and he did sing about six from the usual set list. Can't wait for a Pogues reunion!

Myself, I wouldn't get tickets for this show based on the idea that Shane will be performing. I get the feeling someone who's in charge of Shane's affairs just tends to say yes to a bunch of stuff that the man himself doesn't give much thought to.

I might be wrong but I doubt there would be any Pogues numbers. I presume he would join Jools Holland on a couple of blues numbers or whatever. Probably the one of the Jools Holland album (just to be home with you)

I think (though I don't know for certain) that Jools generally has a "guest singer" on his tours, and that they do get to do a couple or so of their own songs, as well as joining in with some of the Jools stuff. So I'd reckon there's a chance of getting at least a "Rainy Night..." and, as the tour heads inevitably into December, I'd be surprised if there's not a FoNY to be heard. All accompanied by Jools in his usual manner. And assuming that Shane is still with them by then. I've not yet decided whether it's worth buying tickets for the possibility of a couple or so of Pogues songs with Shane, with Jools, but without the Pogues, and all assuming that Shane does manage to get onstage in the first place. The prospect of a local gig (about 2.5 miles from home) is, however, appealing.

Is this the point at which I should say "Hootenanny"?
