The Priests

Post Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:09 pm

Found this on the Sunday World website.......

SHANE MacGowan (inset) has taken up a new pastime - pool!

The Pogues singer hogged the table in the new Gypsy Rose venue in Dublin's Aston quay on Wednesday night.

And amazingly, Shane managed to pot quite a few balls despite the amount of booze he was drinking.

Shane is due join up with The Priests to release a version of The Little Drummer Boy next Christmas.

The rumour about their collaboration that appeared in some Irish newspapers is not exaggeration.
The Priest + Shane MacGowan teaming up = TRUE!
The song (The Little Drummer Boy) has been recorded some two weeks ago, so you will have to wait for a while to hear it. But there will be official release, there will be promo video and all that jazz, just arm yourself with patience and wait ;)

BTW look for September issue of Hotpress - there will be an interview with Shane.

Assuming this is true, it's the most astonishing thing I've heard in, erm, I don't know how long. Can't wait to hear it...

BRILLIANT! I somehow can't see Shane playing pool, though :) but maybe I'm highly misjudging him on his pool skills here...but the news with the single is wonderful. Good song choice as well...Nice!

It appears Shane needs some pointers on how to hold his cue.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Well...I saw the pogues playing pool in Scunthorpe...about a thousand years ago it seems...and young Macgowan was okay.

I have a photo dating back to November 1986,in Hamburg of Shane playing pool along with Jem Finer,James Fearnley and myself. We were in a bar next door to a jazz club called Birdland, hoping we get to see legendary drummer Art Blakey[we failed] i was never any good at snooker,so my pool skills were equally shitty! From what i remember from that night,Shane WAS pretty good at pool,as was Jem and James, all i was good at that night was buying the drinks and spilling them, but that IS another story.RIP The Hurricane.

I wonder did he wow them with a rendition of 'Donegal Express'?

Villa John, did I see you in a photograph taken backstage in Muenster after The Pogues show there?

Based on that, I don't think I'd agree. Songs like he's slurring and has very, very limited range.
