Was Shane on the bill? I don't know that and neither do you. As far as I can see, Shane says yes to just about everything, but whether that amounts to a definite commitment is something for the individual consciences of promoters. My sense is that Shane agreeing to do something like this invariably comes with the tacit "if I can" attached, for better or worse. But I can usually make a private guess how likely his participation will be and am not often wrong. How difficult can it be for other people to do the same? We're talking Shane MacGowan here, not Jedward.

hi phillip, yes shane might be a difficult case in these kind of things. i don´t know what it means if he was on the bill. i just know that the concert was (still is) promoted on this frontpage too with shane in the line up. that´s all i´m able to know or have to know as a fan. and that´s all a fan can be disappointed about if you buy a ticket and the man you want to see didn´t come without any kind of reasons that is officially declared. that´s all. and it´s still disappointing. there might me reasons for his absence, but we all can only speculate.
and by the way, who´s jeward?

I had a great time at the show. Shane was drunker than i have seen him before. It was a decent show, but as I have thought before, it's no Pogues show. The band was just ok. I'm to the point that I'd see the Pogues without Shane way before I'd see Shane without them. The Pogues as a band are still flipping great. just MHO.

As previously posted, I was at that gig too. Shane was indeed inebriated. I was at two of the Olympia shows last December, the Céilí Culture show with Ms. Shannon in August, and both his shows with his new band. On 'Arthur's Day', he was in a far worse state than the other shows. I thought he performed okay despite this. It wasn't one of the vintage performances I've seen him give but it wasn't the worst. For my money, he's got himself a talented band. Given the choice of material on the setlist, in particular the 'rockier' numbers off 'The Snake', I don't reckon he's aiming for a Pogues type sound. Then again, I could be wrong.

I've seen The Pogues minus Shane a few times. The most memorable of these were in late 1993. They played The Olympia on the 'Waiting For Herb' tour (I still have an official sweatshirt I bought at one of the shows! Would it fetch anything on E-Bay!!). Anyway, I thought they were brilliant shows. They far exceeded my expectations. I still believe that this Pogues line-up never got the credit they deserved.

Jedward is a place or state of perfect punishment where the wicked shall be deprived of the sight of the face of God for all eternity and longer.

Unless, of course, you're a prepubescent teen whose hormones have not yet attained that level of sophistication considered prerequisite for the meaningful propogation of our species.
