In fairness, if you're going to drink it anyway, then it's not really costing you anything extra. So it's actually free shampoo.

But if you put the Guinness on your hair, are you then obliged to drink the shampoo?

There was something about this in that MOJO article that was reproduced earlier, I think. I have long been jealous of the luxuriance of Shane's hair. Perhaps this is the answer.

It may well be the answer. How does it help US though? How will we get Shane to part with his hair-restoration-Guinness? Surely he keeps it for himself.

Is it Special Guinness Shane uses then? I thought it was just regular Guinness? Dammit, so I think I may just have wasted a perfectly good pint. And that bottle of shampoo tasted foul...

I'm certain that it's just regular Guinness BEFORE he rinses his hair with it. But once he's gathered it up to set overnight ... Surely that's when the Essence of Shane (the Patron Saint of Flowing Locks) is in the Guinness and I really don't think he'll just give that stuff away.

I think, if i read it right, the key is, in fact, to drink it after.

Ah, indeed, you're right. I've been doing it all wrong. Bit of a hairy drink though, no?

And ah, Essence. About time we had some talk about Essence, it's been absent too long.

Supposedly not if it's at all effective. Oily perhaps, but not hairy.

I was thinking that the effect might be to weed out the odd skanky old hairs from off the head and promote the growth of new and luxuriant flowing locks. Not that I'd suggest that Shane would be prone to skanky old hairs. Far from it, obviously.

The way the new landlord of my local keeps his Guinness, I wouldn't fancy putting that stuff on my head. Though it might improve the taste of it. The taste of the Guinness, that is, not the hair. Why can some landlords not keep the stuff properly?

What I want to know is where does the Tipperary water feature in all this? For conditioning maybe? Rinsing?

Shane's Hair Tipps

Post Fri Jan 22, 2010 11:04 pm

I think he uses his own urine after drinking Guiness. Apparently the urea in urine is good for hair, amongst other things. According to this site http://www.universal-tao.com/article/urine_therapy.html , you massage it into your hair, leave it for half an hour then rinse it out. It says the effect is even more powerful if you don't rinse it out. Yes I imagine it is! Old or fresh urine can be used. Also a mixture of potato and sulphur powder, mixed with heated, old urine helps against hair loss.

So would the urine produced from drinking loads of Guiness be even better for the hair? This may answer Bookish's query regarding eco hair products.

Drinking one's own urine is nothing new, the Incas did it, but it's one thing to hear of it and another to watch it done, as on a documentary I saw recently. The site above says that if your urine is very strong, which can be caused by jaundice or disease, it may cause you to vomit after drinking it (due to the smell), but don't worry, as vomiting will cleanse your stomach.

Yes, far too long and we're not talking about the essence of urine!
