Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground. But you'll stick your head back out and shout "We'll have another round"

About having Birthday 25 december. "Everybody says that. I start celebrating very early. In about July. I always manage to get very drunk because of the happy coincidence".

Across the Broad Atlantic:

"Good Evening, meine Kinder! Mein Name ist General O' Duffey!"

"Thank you! God bless America NOT!"

Shane MacGowan on Jools Holland:

Holland: "Shane, happy new year! Any predictions for the coming twelve months?"

Shane: "Ehm...Judgement Day?"

Shane MacGowan on Frank Skinner:

Skinner: "You know there's something that me and you are in extremely linked together, I'll tell you what it is!" (meaning his and Shane's bad teeth)

Shane: "Bad shirts!"

Quite good ones too, I believe! :)

Not sure where I saw this (years ago) but here is pretty much a direct quote...

Reporter: What brings an Irish folk-punk act to the southern US?
Macgowan: It's four.
Reporter: Four ?
Macgowan: Maybe it's after-morning.

This made me laugh. I like the after-morning part.

There's enthusiasm for ya.

I have to scream in his face though.
I'd be too embarrassed to scream stage right.

Before the St. Patrick's Day show 2008, "St. Patrick was a fucking cunt he destroyed our native religion." Then they tore right into "Streams".

Yes, I liked that too, though it made me wonder what Oirish Rover would have made of it. Especially as our native religion was, basically, Paganism.

"They don't call me Captain Trips for nothing" - October 25th, 2009

Shane tripped and fell down while leaving the stage before Repeal and said this upon his return for Body Of An American.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Not exactly paganism, more druidism, Mr.C. And, as far I know a thing or two about it (old druidism, not the new-druidism stupidity), I guess you can call it some kind of organized religion. At least it was, at a time, spread all over europe. Any Celtic nations had their druids and druidic centers. You can read something about this in some passages from "The Gallic Wars", by Cesar. Paganism is just a word and comes"from Pagus" - meaning provincial, in opposition with urban, that the christian used to described the peoples that took long to let it go their old believes.

Indeed so, but my point was the Irish were,(and remain, to a large extent, which is why slipping loose the chains of Catholicism came so easily to us in the end) Christian recusants all along which is why, as you so accurately state, they were, by Christian definition, Pagans.
