Well, it's certainly got nothin' on Gary Oldman's version.

Right.
What I was looking for was maybe some insight about Shane´s voice being totally different at some parts of the record. Was it maybe recorded on two occasions with Shane being in a good shape in the first and bad shape in the second, or something?

My Way was recorded after Dave Jordan's death, in 1995, at ZTT's Sarm (aka Island) Studios. Produced by Brian Robertson (Robo of Motorhead and Thin Lizzy fame, who later produced Christmas Party EP and had been working with Shane since early 90ies), mixed by Steve Brown (who worked on previous singles and The Snake album, this record must be the last he did for Shane).

It must have been a real challenge to produce and mix it 8)

Yes. Gary covering Sid covering Frank.

And as i never saw Mr. Vicious live, i think of Shane's version as Shanve covering Gary covering Sid covering Frank, and i guess something's been lost along the way. While it's not the worst song ever - not bad at all, really - i just don't think it added much of anything to the history or that song or to Shane's body of work. Come across as a throw-away cover tune from a half-rate trubute project.

Now if Nike had it together, they would use the song to promote these:

But let's just all be thankful to memories of Sid & Joe that it didn't happen. Phew.

Christ alone knows what Joe would have made of it, however the song I'm thinking of is Bill Hick's, "Sucking Satans Pecker"

However, I do like the fact that the Guthrie Archive had 'endorsed' Woody's, "Car Song" to not only keep his tunes alive but to research Huntingdons.

Bill would have made an exception for Shane, as he did for Willie Nelson.

(just reading through past posts and noticed a similar thought to mine above)

Wonder what he would have made of The Cooperative using Dylan's Blowing in the Win to shill their products?

There has to be a distinction made between artists who sell their songs, and those who don't have ownerships. When the Bank of Montreal used The Times They Are a' Changing in an advertising campaign in the 1990s, they bought the rights from Dylan. When McCain foods used the Parachute Club's hit Rise Up, the rights were purchased from EMI, much to the chagrin of band members (who sued EMI, eventually recovering their publishing rights).

So when you see your old favourites on a commerical, remember, it might not be their choice!

I agree, it also depends on the product or 'outcome'. Woody Guthrie's, 'Car Song' is being used by Audi (or someone) in the UK with the cash going to the Guthrie Foundation which does a lot of work into Huntingdons.

It's on the Sid & Nancy soundtrack.

I have a very poor audio copy of the Nike commercial. I am trying desperately to find a full-length copy of the tune, as it sounds completely unlike the other version of My Way I've heard Shane singing. Any suggestions?
