Seachtain na Gaeilge - Ceol' 09

Post Wed Jan 07, 2009 3:36 pm

Seachtain na Gaeilge is a non-profit organisation which helps to promote the Irish language and culture both at home and abroad within a two week festival held in March every year.
Ireland’s musicians are getting in on the act too. Not content with storming up the charts with their hits sung in English they have now taken up the invitation in their droves for help from Seachtain na Gaeilge to chime out their tunes as Gaeilge. Till now there have been four music compilation CDs – SnaG ’05, Ceol ’06, Ceol ’07, Ceol ‘08 – showcasing such as the Corrs, the Frames, Damien Dempsey, The Hothouse Flowers and Mundy singing the songs we know with a little Gaelic twist. All proceeds go to the charity (Concern who continue their amazing work with the world’s poorest people and Barnardos who work to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in Ireland).

In 2009 Seachtain na Gaeilge continues with this interesting and imaginative project as well as with their cooperation with Barnardos. Ceol '09 is being recorded at the end of this month. And here’s where good news begin:

Orla Nic Suibhne from Seachtain na Gaeilge has been in touch with Shane about getting involved and doing a track on this year’s album.
