Rising of the Moon

Post Mon Jan 05, 2009 4:18 pm

Was just in the car listenin to Popes version of Rising of the Moon. Had forgettin how fuckin brilliant a version it really is. Just wonderin if anyone knows what year it was recorded. Shane soundin very young and top of his game on this one. My guess is its a the snake single b side. Haven't listened to me popes albums in a while. Forgot how bloody raw they are. Sound is fuckin super. Personally its the Popes over Pogues for me (not takin anything whatsoever away from the Mighty Pogues) and I'm prob in the minority but everyone to there own yeah??? ANYWAY whats becomin the age old question by now, does anyone think or anyone with contact (Macrua maybe?) to Senior Macgowan think there will ever be a new rocording from the master? We all heard how fuckin great he sounded on the Here's to you Ronnie Drew (RIP) song. Can anyone, ANYONE offer the slightest glimmer of hope to this listener????? Cheers lads.

There is The Snake single? I ve missed a lot since my last time on earth..

If you are absolutely sure it's a studio recording, not some live bootleg, then it must be recorded 15 years ago...

Longing for new recordings? Begin saving for the upcoming albums by The Popes and The Mighty Stef, Shane is guesting there. Or look for Liam Clancy's Bitter End DVD. It's a great gig on its own even.. Recently Shane was /is involved in number of collaborations.

While Shane & the Popes pumped out some fab b-sides ("She Moved Through The Fair" comes to mind), "Rising of the Moon" appeared on album proper The Snake. On my copy it's second to last, followed by an instrumental, "Bring Down the Lamp."
