BEST POGUES GIG????

Post Mon May 29, 2006 12:12 pm

Mine would have to be
!) Royal Court Liverpool 1988 (March) which is pretty much the same as the Brixton live St Patricks DVD thing.

2) Royal Court (again) in about 1990 or 1991 where Shane did a lot of the Hells ditch stuff. I seem to recall he hed missed a lot of the tour as he was coming to the end of it all as a pogue (for the time being ha ha)

3) MEN 2006. I cant really add anything that hasnt already been said.

I am honoured to have been able to apreciate the pogues from quite an early stage (about early 87) but wish I had discovered them earlier still. Cant be greedy though as i know there are pleanty who never got to see them (or havent as yet).

What a difficult question

The first time was special - Hammersmith Clarendon 17th March '85

if I had to pick 2 more - few months later Hammersmith Palais 22nd Sept '85. I thought the floor was going to give way that night

and probably one from the week long residency at the Town & Country in March 1988

Too many to mention, but I was at the Royal Court shows and they were brilliant.

MEN 2006, you got a time machine?

There was one at Glasgow Barrowlands in late 80's, it was the first Sunday all day drinking was allowed, Celtic beat Rangers 2 - 0, and I think Frankie Miller joined them onstage to sing 'Darlin'..was it Paddy's Night as well or was that another night at Barrowlands, those concerts were always a bit blurred, due to outstanding Glaswegian hospitality!

I'm jealous of all of you guys. :( Is jealousy a sin? :P I'm born in 81 so forget me about the 80s gigs and the 2001+ gigs are rare and in only a couple of specific places. I'll see them this october though, in LA. Still have to figure out how to make it to LA. :P

Best Pogues Gig

Post Wed Jun 21, 2006 2:22 pm

Every gig I saw in NYC with the exception of Beacon Theater. I never liked any shows there. I saw The Waterboys and Raindogs there around the same time and it wasn't good either. The sound is never right and you are stuck in these rows of chairs. You can't move an inch. The two best was at the Roseland Ballroom around 88 or 89 and at Pier 84 next to the Intrepid overlooking New Jersey.

BTW Phil, was the footage for the White City video from the Pier 84 gig, when you guys played with Violent Femmes and Mojo Nixon? It looks like that stage set-up (outdoors).

Not from the gig, but filmed the same place, same day, yes. By Peter Dougherty, who also made the FONY video in New York.

21 October 1984 - Manchester Apollo - Elvis Costello was a waste of time after the magic of the Pogues!

I wasn't born till '88 so the band were around for six years before I was born.

But my favourite was 22nd December 2005, Brixton went back stage - thank you Mr C.
