Hi all, first time poster, long time Pogues fan (1st gig, Essex University sometime in the 80's, Shane had one of my mates fags!)

Anyway the whole point of my post, I was at Stansted Airport, Essex today (Sun 4th Sep) and I bumped into Shane (bumped literally, he was a bit wobbly) he had just arrived from Bilbao in Spain, and was travelling onto Dublin, had a chat with him for about 5 mins, he signed an autograph

"To xxxxx, come fly with me, good luck, Shane"

and let me take his picture (see below). Top bloke!!

Told him I was going to the xmas gig this year, and he said to come backstage and see him! I reckon he will have forgotten that by then don’t you!

One of the best moments of my life, unfortunately everybody else I was with (and at the airport I think) didn't have a clue who he was (which was actually good for me, as he didn't get mobbed)

Just though I'd share that with you

Respect

Wow, that is amazing!

I hope I can meet him one day, but I'd probably bumble and stumble and have no idea what to say.

What a great story, and truly lovely pics! Shane always seems to put a little something extra into his autographs, doesn't he?

Thanks for sharing!!

I guess not too many people can clam to have met Shane at a coffee bar :P

thanks for sharing your experience with us!
From what I've heard Shane seems to treat his fans well.
Most of my other favourite musicians I wouldn't even want to meet. I once saw Arthur Lee (Love) in a small club in Italy and he is quite sinister a guy. Most of the time it's better not to meet your heroes.

Think that might be true Eyeball_Kid,but The Pogues are gentlemen.

If I'm not wrong, I believe that Joey is in picture two with his back to the camera leaning on the Coffee bar. He even looks sinister from behind !!!

Well - it used to, when Shane played over here. And maybe someday again...?

Yes, that looks suspiciously like the infamous J.C. beside Shane. Also that looks like one of those trendy fruit bars as opposed to a coffee bar.

Ill-starred light-minded Joey. He should have chosen his position more carefully. Some three feet and he would looked dexter...

Sinister, Dexter. Matters little as either one is a matter of perspective.
