FUNNY INCIDENT

Post Sat May 20, 2006 10:50 am

A week or two ago I was out in Liverpool City Centre and found myself in one of the irish bars (well irsih themed bars there about as irish as the Godfather, Shennagans is a propper irish bar, bit of free advertising there). Anyway there was a band on who have been doing the rounds for years. About sixteen years ago I remember this band and annoying them all night asking them to do pogues tracks and was eventually told we dont do Pogues numbers as their music wasnt considere pure or enough or propper folk or whatever. I was amazed to find that half of their act now consists of pogues numbers and there where plenty of tips of the hats to Mr McGowan. I decided to spend the night asking them to play the theme tune to the Waltons which annoyed them.

Dismaying news. The real Pogues can and do play the theme tune from the Waltons frequently, though never, it must be said, in public. These lads have more lessons to learn from us, it seems.

Which pub and who were the band? I probably know them as I know most of the Irish musicians in Liverpool.

I may do, some of the musicians I don't know their names, just their faces.

Thank you Mr Chevron. Maybe a small rendition on the next Manchester date (unless you really are doing the Barfly in Liverpool ha ha ha ha ha, sorry). It just makes me laugh how your music fifteen years ago was looked at in a certain bad light and now is seen by the same people as what they consider pure enough to include in their precious setlist. After all the musics the same as it ever was.

I know this has probably been thrown on before but any chance of a date in Liverpool maybe in the future??

Yes I know them, Eddie Hughes the banjo player is an old friend of my partners actually.

They used to do Sally MacClennane.

We used to play the Royal Court quite regularly. A great venue, but perhaps a bit on the small side now.

Maybe when/if we get our "new stadium" you could play there.
