To be honest Mark all the pubs round here are a bit shit. Of the out and out Arsenal pubs, the Woodbine in Blackstock Rd is ok and there is one called The Auld Triangle, kind of behind Arsenal tube which is quite nice, if you like that sort of thing...
The Drayton in Drayton Pk is where the away fans normally go. I'll be drinking coffee and smoking tabs in the pizza place on Chatterton Road.

Cheers for that, i'm meeting up a a couple of London based lads at Angel tube at 11 bells Sunday morning and going from there. Had the Woobine mentioned before and i think we went in the Drayton before the cup game - quite a big old place??? If we get the urge for Pizza at any stage i'll say hello!!

Drugs and or alcohol

Post Tue May 09, 2006 3:25 am

I think Phillip has a great point. Alcoholism and addiction, like diabetes are diseases. Young people need to be aware of this and know that drugs and booze don't have to go hand in hand with music.... especially rock n roll. While young bands may consume a shitload of drugs and enjoy it and make great music, some of those folks will lose the ability to enjoy anything because some have a disease they don't even know about yet.... It's a crap shoot. My advice is to go with your gut instinct, if it looks stupid on others it will look stupid on you. Be careful if you chose to try anything and always put creativity and passion first. That's what punk and all great music is about.

In nearly all the cases I defend in which violence is involved the defendandt was under the influence of alcohol, in most cases the hard stuff.
In the moment I am defending a guy who obviously beat his drinking mate to death without being able to tell why. They both had plenty of Rum before it happened.

Good they didn´t have lash with them, it could look even worse. Or sodomy

Sorry to say but that's kind of narrow minded: you either got it or you ain't. It's not not the case with diabetes nor alcoholism. It's possible yes but it's also perfectly possible through life style etc. to develop it otherwise. It is getting more widly assumed that genetics have something to do with it but there's stil no proof for that. And Eric F: why only the young? Most drug abusers (and I mean ALL drugs) aren't that young..

i personally am an alcoholic, and it's just as bad being addicted to anything else
today i feel like hell, because of what went on the night before
and yet i'll do the same thign again tonight,
wont even give the hangover a chance to wear away
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

I totally agree with Spider Stacy, alcohol is still a depressant drug, that like cocaine can seriously ruin your life. Spider preaches this because he almost died from alcohol abuse, Terry Woods as well quit drinking. To say the Pogue promote alcoholism, is missing the point entirely and who ever believes they do is very narrow-minded to say the least.

Thanks for that Pogues22 but i'd hate to be thought of as 'preaching' about anything. It's just my opinion.

As for us promoting drinking...well, it's all a bit chicken and egg isn't it?

Spider sorry to say that you were "preaching," I'm just agreeing with your sentiments. It's just that some idiots on this site need a wake up call. Oh, hope you guys have a great Japan and West Coast tour. I saw you guys on March 11, 2006 in Atlantic City, you guys rocked, their in for a real treat, hope you guys show them who really started this music.

so do people think alcoholism develops over time or are you born with it and it just shows up after youve been drinking for a few years? i get drunk all of every weekend but dont wake up during the week thinking about having a drink..im worried i might start though.
the pogues are always a good band to ask questions on this subject not meaning to stereotype.

during a conference, i heard this theory: every gene has two aspects: IF and THEN; it means that, if you have, say, an "alcoholic gene" or a "violence gene" (!!) they could sleep forever, if there arent' some particular circumstances- like a troubled childhood, for example-that could wake it up.
I'm not making suppositions about anyone!
I only find it interesting because a friend of mine had a bad drinking habit and his mother and father too, and so I thought that it may exist a sort of genetical thing- but that's a dreadful thought, isn't it- and this theory is quite reassuring beacuse it says that there's nothing inevitable, you're not doomed- there's no genetical lot.

Alcoholism is varied and complex. In some forms it is somewhat genetic based (male-pattern alcoholism) in that the individual's biological response to alcohol is different (it feels good, the initial stimulant qualities of alcohol are increased). In other cases alcohol is used as a tranquillizer to remove unpleasant thoughts and sensations. In other situations being an alcoholic might be a secondary characteristic to something such as poor impulse control. The real message is that every one who is an alcoholic is unique, has a unique reason for drinking and needs to be treated as an individual and not a diagnosis.
