Can't believe I let this one pass without a reply! Great story, Scrapper. Great pics.

Ooooooooooh, how to start a brawl at a linguistics convention.....

What's the name of the baldy guitarist from the ex-Popes? He told the band I was a smartarse once on stage, and I would like to thank him via mail one day for the compliment.... [/quote]

At least they don't call him Bruce. Well, he doesn't come for his drinks when they do, so ....

Yeah, it was fun..... Popes at The Gaelic Club, Sydney - no Shane - we sad but bopping away anyway just in case he flew in unexpectedly.... long story short, I get up to sing Dirty Old Town - get asked (by said Paul) what 'key' I'd like it in (like he'd ask any usual pissed crowd-member as if they had no idea :) ) I say "Any key yez fuckin' like" - he turns to band and sez - "Oi, we've got a smartarse/live one something here lads" - they launch in - I launch in - crowd goes reasonably in the direction of nuts (for me anyway) - get to end - stagger off - get bought cúpla pionta - get accused (jokingly) of being a 'plant' (YES, we ALL know what kind) - go home slightly chuffed. Still am. So sue me......

I thought you were a member of the support band or something. I believe going on stage to sing with Shane must have been the only way to save the gig though ... All in all I enjoyed myself but it wasn't because of the great musical skills presented though.

Hehe, allright! Yeah, that experience pretty much "saved" the whole trip.
Musically it was, objectively speaking, close to pathetic. But when friends asked me how it was, of course I replied: BRILLIANT!

That's just the way to do it. In conditions like that you just got to make the most of it ... and you did. Well done.

"Bergensere", people from Bergen, don't talk norwegian you see,
but a nasty, ghastly version of inbred norwegian.
Sort of like scottish compared to irish.

...sort of like Glaswegians, other Scots say they can't understand a word.

Great story.

Brilliance
I laughed out loud more than once...
many a night i've had this dream,
and come awake with a broad grin on my fce
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.
